Epilogue-Part One
Sadie POV
Four Years Later, 21-years-old
It’s been four years since the last time I saw him. We started to send letters to each other, call every night before we went to bed, and even video chat. But that all ended. He was the last to send a letter; I didn’t have enough time to send one back because I was getting ready for college.
I tried getting over him by dating again. Although every single one of my dates didn’t go as I planned. So I stopped and just stuck with my friends from college. My friend, Mary, has a boyfriend. Even with one she still has enough time to hang out. When all of us are together, we try not to talk about boys because they all know that; that is a rough subject for me.
After a while, all of my friends each got boyfriends. That’s when everything started. I would get so depressed when they were out with them, or kissed them in front of me. I started cutting and drinking a lot. I was just so depressed without him. I honestly didn’t know what to do.
But besides all that bullshit, it’s now Christmas. My mom invited me to her annual Christmas party. So I set on my way home. I made it just in time for the dinner. I got settled in my old room.
My mom has a Christmas party every year. And every year we would have neighbors come and a few close family and friends. Every year mom invited the Simons’; and every year Justin doesn't come. But this time it felt different, like something big is going to happen.
I chose my red cocktail dress and black heels. I put my long hair into a French braid. It went all the down to the middle of my back even in the braid. I put on eyeliner, mascara, and red lipstick to match my dress. To finish the outfit off, I wore my heart shaped diamond earrings. Unfortunately, I don’t have a matching necklace.
I heard the doorbell ring and my mom greet people in for the hundredth time. I could hear the Christmas music playing and everyone chatting in the living room and kitchen. I opened my door and walked downstairs to the very busy living room. I saw a couple people from the neighborhood and waved to them.
I walked into the kitchen to see my mom in a very intimate conversation with a couple other ladies. They all had a tall glass of red wine in their hand and talked aimlessly about god knows what. My mom looked over my way and smiled, motioning me to come over.
I walked over to the counter and grabbed a wine glass. I poured red wine into it and took a sip before heading over to the ladies my mom is talking to.
“And if all you ladies remember my daughter Sadie.” All the ladies nod and smile at me.
“Sadie dear, you’ve grown up to be such a beautiful young lady.” One of the women said. Scarlet, I think it was.
“Thank you. It’s nice to see all of you again. It’s been a while.” I take a sip of my wine.
“It’s been too long, too, too long.” Elizabeth, I think, says.
“Oh, Sadie. There’s someone on the back porch waiting for you. I think you’ll be very happy.”All the ladies’ start to giggle and then get back to what they were talking about before. I finish my drink and set it down. Taking in what my mom said has suddenly gotten me nervous.
What if it’s Justin? I guess the only way to find out is to go to the back porch. So I head out to the freezing cold porch outside. I hug my arms and run my hands up and down to try to keep warm. Although, it’s not really working.
At first I don’t see anyone outside; but then when I look closer, there’s someone leaning against the railing. The porch lights turn on when I step closer and now I can see clearer.
