Thunk! went the arrow. Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! "Yes!" cried a voice as the last arrow left her bow, and landed exactly in the middle of the target. This voice belonged to a girl, not just any girl, but the infamous Princess Rosilda. She was known across the twelve kingdoms as the princess that is not a princess. This was simply a metaphor.
She was a true princess, by birth anyway. Her father, King Bomani of Ipance, and her mother, Queen Fianna of Othrany, were King and Queen, of not one, but two kingdoms, and therefore, by right, Rosilda was a true princess. But birth was not the meaning behind this metaphor. Rosilda was well known for not following the acts true princesses should, and therefore any well meaning prince should keep away from her. But they did not.
For many the thought that Rosilda would, one day, be queen of the two most powerful kingdoms, could not go amiss. If they married her they would control Ipance and Othrany, and whatever kingdom or kingdoms they would inherit. For others their attraction to Rosilda was the thought of trying to be the first to 'tame' her. Rosilda was simply not falling for any of it.
Part of her training as a young girl had been in princes, and she knew all of their wily tricks. Any prince that just thought they could turn up at any of the royal palaces in Ipance or Othrany and then would leave with her promise of marriage had some serious issues.
Princes were always coming to propose to Rosilda, from the twelve kingdoms and beyond, and all left without a betrothal. At this moment in time four princes were vying for her hand. Prince Hoccar of Chapasian came from beyond the twelve kingdoms. Prince Sandevv of Egrezeasite was a well know dragon slayer. Prince Edyrm of Qaidel paid more attention to Princess Clotilde than to Princess Rosilda. And Prince Tiarshus of Vroneian was more interested in himself then anything else. Rosilda would never marry any of them.
And so it looked like she may never marry. That was until Prince Taegen of Caeprasal arrived at the palace.
