Maya had only swallowed one pill by Tuesday and was about to attempt an easier, and quieter way of getting out of it.
"Morning, mom."
"Pills." She said, placing them in her daughters hand.
"Fine, I don't feel like putting up a fight today." She popped them in her mouth, pretended to swallow some water, picked up her bag, and left the apartment, leaving Katy shocked, satisfied, but a bit suspicious.
As soon as Maya left the apartment, she spit the pills out into a plastic bag that she put back into her backpack, and went to Riley's.
"I called your mom. She said you took the pills so, breakfast."
"I don't think they've started working yet. Besides, it's already seven."
"It's 6:58." Said Riley.
"Oh, huge difference."
"I'll make sure she eats lunch." Said Riley to her mom, getting up. The two girls left the apartment and went to school.

Maya sat in the janitors closet during lunch, as she normally did. She sat with her knees pointed up, bent, and her feet flat. She had a sketchbook in her hand and was drawing in the dim light.
Suddenly, the door opened, revealing Lucas and Cory who was holding a key.
"This is where you have been during lunch? I knew it. Let's go." Said Lucas.
"Come on! Do you have to take every fucking thing away from me? This was the last thing that I had left." She said. She turned to Cory.
"Fine, give me detention, I don't care. Now, If you will excuse me, I have to find some other place where I can be left alone." She ran past them before they could even react. Once they finally understood what had happened, they ran after her. She seemed no where to be found. Only a few minutes before the bell, Lucas began to hear a sound coming from around a corner.
Maya heard the footsteps. She stood up and looked around. The footsteps were coming from around the corner. She turned around and took a step.
"Maya?" She froze. Cory stayed but Lucas ran up to her and around to the front of her and grabbed her shoulders.
"W-who did this to you!" He screamed, looking at her bruised eye. Her body shook hard and the sobs started to escape her again. She leaned into him and tucked her head in his shoulder.
"It's getting worse." She cried, quietly. He wrapped her arms around her. "Nothing you can do will make me safe."
