"Of course you're still here." Said Topanga, walking in to see Maya in the window of Riley's bedroom with her sketchbook as Riley used the bathroom. "You should probably get going soon, your mom might be worried."
"Oh, she doesn't worry much when I'm not home."
"Well, I know that she is done with work right around now and I think that you should spend your night with her." Maya felt like an idiot. She wasn't welcome. What was she doing there? The poor lady had dealt with her since she had came over after dinner the night before.
"Okay. I'll just grab my things than." She quickly swung her bag over her shoulder and slid her boots on.
"Thank you for letting me stay." She said, quickly leaving the room as Topanga folded the laundry.
She plugged her headphones into her phone as she walked to the stairs and put them on her head. She ran down the stairs. When she reached the bottom, she looked back up. Why not go again? She ran back up and down twice more until her legs felt too weak to hold her up. Then she leaned against the wall until they felt better. She didn't take the subway but walked the entire way home. When she passed the neighborhood that scared her, she ran, and then she walked again as she began to recognize the people form hers. At last, she was home.
"Hey, babygirl."
"Hey, mom." She said, walking to her room and plopping down onto the bed. She didn't regret her walk. It felt great and it definitely counted for something. She had eaten too much, though Riley thought the opposite. A banana for breakfast and half of a ham sandwich for lunch. She did not bother to tell her mother about her not having dinner, yet. She thought of being productive but her body felt as if it were being held to the bed by weights. Sleep seemed much more attractive and suitable at the moment so she let herself dose off.
Walking was always better.
