Cosmosia and Floyd sniffed the ice as she ventured around her den. Her mother, Tolika, watched as her cub played around. Tolika's first cub died from an male white bear, but she was somehow able to have two more cubs. Tolika sighed. Cosmosia's stomach growled. She hasn't eaten in at least 2 days. She was so hungry, one of those days she swore she'll start eating the snow. "Cosmosia, Floyd, come on dear. It's getting windy." Tolika said, scanning the outside with giant head. "Coming, Mother!" Cosmosia said, trotting to her mom. Tolika nuzzled Cosmosia. "What's wrong with a little wind? I can stand it." Cosmosia questioned. "That's a sign of a possible blizzard. You don't want to get lost, don't you?" Tolika said. "Even if I do, I'll find you eventually!" Cosmosia said, smiling. Tolika smiled as she layed her large body in the den. Cosmosia then snuggled into her chest, hearing her heart beating softly. Floyd layed his head onto Tolika's gigantic paw. "Its cold..." Floyd said. "Then why are you near the opening? Get closer to Mother." Cosmosia said. Floyd snorted and layed next to Cosmosia, getting all the warmth he could get. "How about I tell a story my mother told me." Tolika suggested. Cosmosia rolled her eyes. "Is that story with Silaluk and the burn-sky?" Floyd asked. Tolika nodded. "Yes it is." Tolika said. I might as well. Maybe it'll make me fall asleep faster, Cosmosia thought. "Long long ago, before bears walked on the earth, a frozen sea shattered into pieces. Each of those pieces were was spirit, of the bear." Tolika said. "If you look up at the sky, you'll see a pattern of stars shaped as the great beat, Silaluk."

Cosmosia loved listening to her mother's stories. One reason was because it took her mind of her hunger. "She is running around and around the Pathway Star." Tolika continued. "Why is she running?" Cosmosia asked, just before Tolika continued. Cosmosia never actually knew why the great bear was running around the Pathway Star. "Because, it is snow-sky and she is hunting. She hunts seal and beluga whale." Tolika answered. Cosmosia nodded in understanding. "But when the ice melts," Tolika continued. "she couldn't hunt anymore. But she kept running and running."

"Why? Why did Silaluk keep running?" Floyd asked. "Because, she was being chased by hunters; Robin, Chickadee, and Moose Bird." Tolika answered. Floyd nodded. "Even with Silaluk's strength, she wasn't able to defeat the hunters, and got speared in the heart."

Cosmosia shivered a bit. Just by imagining that made she shutter. "The blood got on Robin's chest, which is why all robins have red chests. And the blood landed on tree leaves, which is why of the leaves of trees are red." Tolika finished. Floyd smiled. "I liked that story," he said. "The great bear Silaluk! The mighty bear who died with proud!"

"Its pride, Floyd." Cosmosa corrected. "I knew that," Floyd said. "Hush, little bears. Time to go to sleep." Tolika said, yawning. Cosmosia started thinking what will happen when burn-sky arrives. "Mother," Cosmosia chipped. "What will happen when burn-sky arrives?" Tolika chuckled. "It'll be fine. We'll find a way to survive somehow. Even if that means eating grass and berries for a bit." Tolika said. "What are berries and grass?" Floyd asked. "Sounds like a weird white bear name." Cosmosia said. "We'll talk about this another time. Go to sleep, you two." Tolika said. Cosmosia leaned more comfortably in her mother's chest. Floyd was already fast asleep, snoring softly. Cosmosia's got slowly more heavy as she felt the warmth of the cave and her mother's yellowish fur. Finally, she fell asleep.

Cosmosia woke up to eerie silence. Her ear twitched a bit as she leaned her paw towards her brother. "Floyd, wake up. The storm is gone," Cosmosia said. Floyd groaned. "Ughhhh who cares.... I just wish I feel asleep with a full stomach..." Floyd said. "The storm is gone so Mother can hunt, dumbhead!" Cosmosia growled. Floyd's eyes widen as he heard the word hunt. "FOOD!" Floyd said, jumping around. "Hey, Floyd," Cosmosia said.

"huh?"

"Wanna play Fight The Bear?"

"Of course! But I'm going to win, duh."

Cosmosia snorted and rolled her eyes. "Come on let's go outside!"

"Not with me not watching you both," Tolika said, rising her head slowly. The moment Cosmosia and Floyd heard her voice, they jumped a bit. She was awake the whole time? Cosmosia thought. Tolika stretched her claws and legs, standing up. "Can we go outside now?" Cosmosia asked. Tolika rolled her eyes. "Yes you can," she said. "YAY!" Both Cosmosia and Floyd said as they ran outside the den. Tolika watched as they played in the pure white snow. Cosmosia stood up on two legs. "I am Silaluk! The great bear!" Cosmosia hollered. "I am Robin! Face my mighty spear!" Floyd said, balling up a patch of snow and throwing it at her. Although it missed and hit her leg, Cosmosia still pretended it speared her heart. "AHHHHHHH I'M DYING," Cosmosia said, falling backwards into the snow. "YAY I KILLED SILALUK, NOW, FOR MORE BLOOD!" Floyd yelled more, rapidly throwing more snowballs at Cosmosia. Most of them missed, but one lucky snowball it directly at her chest. "Okay, okay I'm dead!" Cosmosia said, trying to block the snowball attack. "Hehe okay sorry. I got carried away." Floyd said. Cosmosia stood up, giggling. "SNEAK ATTACK!" Cosmosia yelled, grabbing a snowball and throwing it at Floyd. Even though Floyd dodged it, the snowball did hit a bear. "Hey," Tolika growled. Tolika rubbed the snow off her snout. "Stop playing around and come on. Time to hunt." Tolika said. Cosmosia and Floyd nodded as they watched Tolika walked from the den. "What are we going to eat, Mother?" Floyd asked. "Anything we can find," Tolika said. Cosmosia trotted next to her mother. Her stomach growled again. "We haven't eaten in days," Cosmosia said, frowning. "I know," Tolika answered. "But you survived, right? Its okay. We'll find an seal eventually." Cosmosia snorted as her claws crunched on the snow. Her stomach growled again, as if it was a large cargo ship sinking in the water. Suddenly, Tolika stopped. "Do you smell that?" Tolika said. Cosmosia sniffed the air. "I smell... salty water...?" Cosmosia said. "No, not water. Seal." Tolika sniffed the ground. "This way. Follow me." She said. Soon, she started to walk to a large hole on the ice. "It's.... Its a hole..." Cosmosia said. "Yes, but a breathing hole for the seals. The seals come up to get air before going back in the water." Tolika explained. Cosmosia stared at the hole as they waited. 6 minutes passed as they just sat there. Cosmosia noticed Floyd's eyes getting droopy. Cosmosia even noticed herself getting tired too, but she wanted to see a seal. Soon, Floyd fell asleep. But Cosmosia stayed awake. She yawned silently. Just as her eyes were getting more droopy, she heard a loud splash. She opened her eyes wide to see the what made the noise. She barely had time to see the grey seal with the dark spots, but Tolika already lunged at the seal by the neck. Tolika pulled the seal from the hole, and ripped it open. Floyd woke up suddenly to the smell of blood and meat, and stood up, running towards the seal. The smell of salt and blood revealed how hungry she really was. But suddenly, Tolika rose her head, scanning her surroundings. "A bear," she said. Cosmosia looked at her mother in worry. "What about a bear?" She asked. "We must eat quickly," she answered, worriedly. Floyd wasn't even listening a continued eating. But just as they tried to even take a bite, a giant male white bear came walking towards the family. "Come on, now!" Tolika ordered, nearly running away. Cosmosia was already panicking the moment she saw the bear, so she pulled the tail clean off the seal and ran with her mother and brother.

"Why did he steal our food?! That was ours! We caught that!" Floyd complained. "Its okay, Floyd," Tolika said. "He was probably as hungry as we were."

Cosmosia could the eyes of Floyd staring dead at her. Cosmosia tried to ignore it, but she couldn't handle it, so she looked at him. "Yes, Greedy?" Cosmosia said. "I'm not greedy," Floyd protested. "I was hungry."

"Ha, how'd you know I was talking about the seal?" Cosmosia joked, trying to outsmart her own brother. "SHHHHH, little cubs!" Tolika said. "Stop harassing each other! We must all stay calm,"

Cosmosia snorted and walked next to her mother as Floyd tried to keep up. "What are we going to do, Mother?" Cosmosia asked. Tolika sighed. "I don't know... but we must hunt more before burn-sky arrives."
