POINT OF VIEW: Cory Kensington
As soon as we walk in the door, my mom wraps her arms around Ella, immobilizing her arms.
"Psst! Mom!" I half whisper. I flatten my hand and move it side to side by my neck, motioning for her to knock it off from behind Ella in the doorway. She just sticks her tongue out at me, and then releases her. She takes one look at her and gasps. "Oh my god, Ella!" She says, pressing both hands on either side of her face. "Are you okay?" She asks. I cross my arms.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little knocked up." Ella answers.
"Okay, well, just promise me something." My Mom begs.
"What's that?" Ella questions.
"Just promise me you'll stick around here for a little while." She asks.
"Alright" Ella smiles. "I think I'm going to go lay down." She states. My Mom nods, and Ella takes off toward the stairs, disappearing in a few quick steps.
My Mom turns to me. "What?" I mumble.
"Dishes." She replies with a snap of her fingers and a point toward the kitchen.
"Oh, c'mon! Really?" I protest.
"Yes, now."
"Why?"
"Because. I'm your Mother and I say go do the dishes."
"I'm your son and I say no."
"Ooh, you're just like your Father. Whatever." She says with a dismissive flick of her wrist, before disappearing into the kitchen. I look to make sure she's gone, before following Ella up the stairs.
"Elle?" I say, knocking on the door.
"Wait! I'm making sure my shirt is on properly this time." She hollers. There's a brief pause. "Mm-kay. All good, come on in." I creak the door open a bit. She's sitting on the bed with her legs crossed, looking at her hand. "You took the gauze off?" I ask.
"Yeah, nurse told me to take it off ASAP." She mumbles, not taking her eyes away from her hand. I sit beside her on the bed. "What do you think?" She asks, looking up at me.
"Wow. You weren't kidding. I can't even tell." I say. I set a finger on her chin and take a look at the side of her face. She turns her head and looks me in the eyes, not saying anything, just setting her good hand on top of mine. Time seems to slow, but my heart starts to race. I don't know if I want this to happen, or not.
Oh, who am I kidding, I know what I want. I shut my eyes and slowly move in closer. Oh my god. Stop thinking. I tilt my head to the side. As soon as I feel my nose brush hers, my Mom breaks the silence, bringing me back to reality.
"Cory! Come set the table!!" She yells. My eyes shoot open, and Ella's cheeks turn cherry red. I quickly get to my feet, running out of the room, shutting the door.
Holy shit, I almost kissed Ella!
POINT OF VIEW: Ella O'Connor
My brain is filled with nothing but static and fuzz. I can't imagine how red my cheeks went. I just sit on the bed, staring at the door way where he disappeared in a hurry. I press my hand to my nose where we came in contact. What am I going to do? What would've happened if I really did kiss him? I can't think straight at all. I shut my eyes and lay back on the bed. A shower. I need a shower. Showers always help me think. I get up off of the bed and walk into the ensuite and turn on the water, letting it run as I take off my clothes, before getting in.
