The Bus

I felt bad for Simon. Here we were, three girls and one guy, on a quest together. We had all stayed the night at a cheap motel with only two beds. I shared a bed with Simon, and Rhydian and Kai shared the other. We had found out that Rhydian was a daughter of Hera, but otherwise not much else. She kept to herself, only ever talking to us when we directly addressed her. Sitting around a table in the cafeteria of  the motel, I pulled out my laptop, which I had rebuilt so that it didn't give off the usual monster-attracting signal. All children of Athena were given a flash drive of information that was stored in Dedalus's laptop to put on our own. I pulled up a search engine for demigods. "First we have to figure out what the prophecy means by 'The resurgence'." Simon said. "Well, the word in general means uprising, or coming back." Rhydian observed. I opened a page that pinpoints monsters. "There seems to be a bunch of monsters popping up in Michigan." I said. "But why? What is in Michigan that they want?" Kai asked. "Let's find out." I answered, closing my laptop and slipping it into my bag. We all got up and walked out of the motel, then went to a bus stop. When the bus came, we got on and took our seats. "Something about this makes me uneasy," Rhydian mumbled. "Yeah, me too." Simon agreed. We scanned over all the passengers and the bus driver. Nobody looked like anything more than normal people. A boy got up and went to speak to the driver. He returned to his seat, and suddenly we veered off the road and into the empty field next to us. Strangely, everyone seemed eerily calm. The driver kept going like nothing was wrong. Kai clutched the hem of my shirt and whispered in my ear, " What's going on?" "I'm not sure," said back. We looked at everybody, sitting in their seats like nothing was wrong. Then, the bus driver stopped.
