A New Generation

The Hellhole. No, Not Middle School.

I woke in the middle of the night feeling like I was sinking. Then I realized that I actually was sinking. The whole floor was, in fact. I immediately woke up Kai and asked her to wake the others. She rushed over to get them while I ran around the perimeter of the room, trying to figure out what was happening. Rhydian screamed when she woke, and gripped Simon's shirt. "What's happening?" Simon yelled. A sound had grown to drown out our voices. It sounded like metal on metal, grinding and practically killing my ears. We had sunk so low now that the room was completely light-deficit. Kai gripped my shirt the same as Rhydian to Simon. Suddenly a dark purple-black glowing mist filled the room, or what was left of it. We stopped moving. Simon pulled out his phone and flicked on the flashlight, revealing that the walls of the room had fallen down. Beyond them was a dark, flat plain. On the horizon seemed to be a very large animal...maybe a dog? Guarding some gates. We walked cautiously out of the ruins. "Th-this is the-the underworld." Kai stammered, still trying to regain senses. "I would know, I-I'm a child of H-Hades." Simon found and pointed out a path, which we followed. It led straight to the gates. So it WAS a dog. According to Kai, its name was Cerberus, and she threw a red rope toy at the giant dog. Surprisingly that calmed it down. Kai told us that she had been here before, and it showed. She led us straight past the souls of the dead, to her father's castle. The throne was empty when we got there, but there were two men sitting at a table across from one another. One had pale skin and dark hair. The other was the exact opposite, with blond hair and tanned skin. "Nico." Kai said at the same time as Simon said "Will."
