It only took a few seconds for Gwaine to fall next to Merlin and wrap his arms around his small frame, the sobs shaking Gwaine and the bandits body as well.
"Hey, mate, it's okay. Everything's going to be fine. I promise. Nothing bad's gonna happen anymore." Gwaine's voice was filled with kindness and Merlin felt his heart swell.
"Guys." Gwaine hissed not looking back. "Guys. Get over here and help."
Arthur looks a little overwhelmed. Leon looks scared. Elyan looks confused and Percival, like the big softy he is, looks upset. "What should we do? You and... Wait. What's your name?" Arthur looked a little shocked at the revelation.
"Azalea." The bandit replied.
"Azalea, that's a pretty name. Azalea." Gwaine repeated. And with that Merlin began to cry even harder.
"What, what's the matter Merlin?" Percival rushed forward, joining the hug.
"She was so beautiful I had to say her name twice."
"Mate, I'm so sorry. I didn't know." Gwaine's voice was filled with such sorrow and regret that Merlin stopped crying and stood up.
"Of course you didn't. I've never told you about anyone I've lost. Any of you."
"Why not? We would have listened. You know that."
"I didn't want to bother you." Merlin's voice was barely a whisper and as he look back up from the floor that had captivated his gaze with the ability not to look at anyone in the eye.
"Merlin," Arthur's voice was a weird mix of sternness and gentleness. It was making Merlin rather confused. "If something bothering you, you tell us. No matter what. Even if you think it's unimportant or mundane or stupid. If it's upsetting you. Tell us."
Merlin's face was washed with shock and happiness at Arthur's words. A small thin smile spread upon his face and the rest of the knights realised just how long it had been since they saw even the trace of a true smile on his face. The knights that were left all began to edge closer. After a few minutes of not uncomfortable silence but defiantly unwanted, Leon spoke.
"Merlin," All faces turned towards him, the knights looking panicky and Azalea scowling. "I know your upset, but this would all make alot more sense if we understood who Freya was to you."
"Everything, she was everything to me." Merlin's voice was shaky but he didn't let anymore tears escape his ocean blue eyes.
"Mate, you definitely should have told us about her. But you can make up for it now."
"You want me to tell you about Freya?"
"Yes" the voice that spoke sounded desperate. Azalea's eyes were filled with trapped emotion and tears. "From the moment you met her to the last time you saw her."
"We might want to get comfortable it could take a while. I have to go back to the very beginning for you to understand."
