Merlin felt his body give way as he collapsed to the floor in a mess of gangly limbs. His legs found themselves naturally folding inwards to a cross-legged position and his back searching for the cold stone wall behind him. After several incredulous looks, Merlin turned his gaze, slightly lost, back towards Azalea and the knights.
"You wanted me to explain. Didn't you?" Merlin's watery eyes looked up at his friends, a small sad smile scrawled across his face.
"Well, yes." Arthur said, hesitantly. "Yes, we did."
Arthur cautiously began to sat on the floor we slow, soft movements, like Merlin was a deer he was trying not to startle. Azalea followed him, just as gracefully, sitting lightly on top of the slate flooring. One after the other the knights began to sit down as well, until only Gwaine was left standing, a huge grin on his face a he plopped to the floor with a gigantic thud.
"I can't explain my meeting's with Freya without explaining everything - everything I've ever done - but first you need to understand why. And, I suppose, how." Even as Merlin said this his lips twitched and eyes jumped to the door, obviously desperate for an escape route that he knew he would never find.
"Alright Merlin. We get it. You have a lot to tell us." Leon said, his hands dragging through his ginger hair. "But honestly, its getting dark, can you not just - I don't know? Tell us how you met her and then the rest in the morning?"
The room looks out across at the stained window, the stained window that was becoming dull without light and the group began to realise just how late it was and just how hungry each and everyone of them was. Azalea also realised that her followers would be beginning to grow suspicious at the lack of screaming or her demands. She quickly began to rectify this, drawing on her birthright to create faint echos of fake screaming to ring down the stone corridors. However, as her eyes grew molten gold, Elyan looked straight at her.
"Aaarrgghhh!" Elyan's eyes were filled with shock but also growing into hatred.
All the knights looked him dead on, confusion in their expressions.
"What is it, Elyan?" Arthur asked, now on red alert.
Elyan went to speak, his mouth opening to explain and his hand headed towards the polished steel sword with it sheath, hanging at his waist, when a voice spoke within his head, softly and scared.
"Please." It whispered. "Please, don't. You have a good heart, Elyan. Please, allow me to explain. I beg you!"
"Why on earth should I? I have seen nothing of your goodness, you kidnapped us, locked us in cells. I shouldn't trust you." Elyan called back, his voice angry.
"Because I need you to. Otherwise I'm dead."
Something about the scared, pleading tone Azalea's voice had taken on made Elyan want to protect her. The softly spoken words yet audible terror melted Elyan's heart.
"Nothing." Elyan said, looking once again into Azalea's now green eyes. "I thought I saw something."
"Thank you."
"You owe me an explanation."
"Right, well," Arthur said, utter bafflement on his face. "I think maybe we should all go to sleep. Azalea, why don't you send someone to go and get something to eat and then, we can all settle down and get some sleep, preferably before Merlin starts what I presume to be a long, tedious and emotionally draining story."
Arthur looked around the room, testing his friends reactions to his words, before asking:
"Yes?"
Agreeing murmurs came from all directions, some more enthusiastic than others (Gwaine vs Azalea) But all in relative agreement anyway.
"See if you can't get us some ale. Ooohh, and an apple. I do love an apple."
