It's been an hour since you left your and Calum's apartment. My apartment now, you think to yourself, wiping away the tears flowing down your face. When you came home from work today, everything of Calum's was gone. It was like he never lived there. You had no idea what to do, but all you knew was that you couldn't stand to be in that place full of so many memories of you and Cal.
You dialed his number as you went outside for a walk to clear your head and, wouldn't you know it, it goes right to voicemail.
"Fine, Calum I get. You don't love me anymore and it was stupid of me to actually think that someone like you could love someone like me. I just thought that when you broke up with me, you would actually say it to my face instead of taking all your stuff and disappearing. Wow, was I ever wrong about you," you say into the phone with a shaky voice. You hang up and turn off your phone, letting yourself disconnect from the world and from Calum.
You don't really have a clue as where to go, but your feet bring you to a familiar place. Your secret place. The place where you and him could have some peace and privacy away from the fans and paparazzi and the rest of the world. You shared your first kiss here, exchanged "I love you's" for the first time, and traded secrets with each other that no one else in the world knew except for you and him.
You ease yourself down next to the little river. You rest your chin on your knees and let all your emotions flow out of you and mix together with the dark blue water rushing by.
It feels like you've been sitting and crying here for hours. You listen to the rush of the water, the soft breeze through the leaves, and the skittering of small animals climbing up nearby trees that you are startled when you hear a voice shouting your name.
"Y/n! Y/n, thank goodness you're alright. I have been calling and texting you for two hours, trying to get a hold of you to let you know that I didn't leave you," Calum said breathlessly. " I love you so much, y/n, and I'm so sorry that you thought I left. I meant to be there when you came home, but traffic and stupid people made me run late. All my stuff is gone because I moved it. I moved it into our new house and I trying to surprise you but -"
You cut him off with a passionate kiss. You run your hands through his hair while his hands circle around your waist and bring the two of you closer together. When you both run out of air, you pull back and look at him for a minute with a smile on your face.
"I want to see it," you say, breaking the silence.
"Okay. Let's go home," he says, kissing you lightly on the cheek.
The car is filled with an excited atmosphere. You can't wait to see the house and as you drive over there, you and Calum hold hands and steal glances at each other. It's a pretty quiet night out, not too much traffic. Cal takes an exit off the freeway and pulls over onto the side of the road then turns to look at you. You notice his hand shaking and he gives you a nervous smile before pulling out a small black box.
"Y/n, this isn't the way I pictured doing this, but after everything that happened today, I realized -"
At that moment, a SUV slams into the back of your car, jolting you forward. You hit your head hard off the dashboard and black circles dot your vision. You feel something warm run down your cheek and see Calum lying face down through the front windshield before the darkness takes over.
