"Hi Kylee," Calum says softly, still holding your hand. Your stomach churns with the motion of his thumb rubbing gently across the top of your hand and it takes everything you have to not pull your hand away. You know you should open your eyes, yank your hand out of his, and tell him to get the hell out, but curiosity of why he's here gets the better of you so you do nothing except pretend to be sleeping.

You hear the loud scrape of a chair against the linoleum floor and Calum mutter "Shit" under his breath. The following minutes consist of suffocating silence while internally you're screaming for Michael to swoop in and save you from this situation.

"So, uh, I guess I'll start from the beginning," Calum says, breaking you from your own thoughts. "That first time you and Michael met, I was the one who pointed you out to him."

I already know that. Why is he telling me this? You think to yourself before he continues talking.

"I know he told you that, but what you don't know is that the moment I saw you, I knew you were special and I wanted to get to know you. I watched you and your friends dance and have fun in that club for a good hour trying to pump myself up to walk over and introduce myself to you. When I finally built up the courage and was about to walk over, Michael beat me to it and you know the rest," Calum says, his voice cracking at the end.

Oh my God, you think to yourself. I can't believe what he's telling me. How could I not see how he felt before?

"After we left the club later that night, Michael wouldn't shut up about you and, honestly, I didn't really want him to. I wanted to hear all about you, but Luke and Ashton weren't as interested. But when you showed up the next day, there was no denying that the four of us thought you were so awesome and a great person. We all loved you and we still do even if we aren't really talking to each other right now, but Kylee, don't blame yourself. It's my fault," he says with so much emotion.

"Michael could tell that my feelings for you were different from the other guys and he called me on it. We spent hours talking it out; he told me he felt bad for what he did, but I forgave him because I have never seen Michael as happy as you make him, Kylee. I tried doing everything I could to change my feelings for you to be more friendly instead of more than friends, but I couldn't and I still can't. I love you, Kylee, so much and I know you love Michael, but I just had to let you know why this all happened and that Michael isn't the only one who blames himself," Calum chokes out.

Just then, you hear a knock on the door and Calum releases your hand.

"The cock crows at dawn," you hear Ashton's muffled voice call from the other side of the door.

"I gotta go now, but I hope you'll be willing to listen to me when you wake up and get better," he tells you in a soft voice. All of a sudden, his lips press lightly against yours and your whole body tenses up.

"Kylee? Can you hear me? Are you awake?" Calum asks in a frantic voice. He brushes away some of the hair in your face.

"She's fine. You don't have to go in there," you hear Ashton say loudly from outside. You hear the doorknob turn and you know your earlier prayer has been answered. Michael is back and he just walked in on Calum holding your "sleeping" face in his hands.

"You're fricking kidding me right? Do you actually want me to kick your ass Calum?" Michael yells.

"It's not what it looks like, Michael. I wanted to see how Kylee is and I was just about to leave when....she tensed up after I kissed her," Calum quickly says in a shaky voice. "I think she's awake."

I can't do this anymore, you think to yourself. You open your eyes slowly. Calum is sitting on the edge of your bed and looking at you with his big brown eyes. Ashton stands in the doorway with a blank expression on his face. Luke has his hands on Michael's shoulders and a shocked look on his face. When you look at Michael, your heart breaks. His hands are balled into fists, his lower lip is quivering, and a steady stream of tears are flowing down his face.
