Augustus Waters: Longer than Forever(The Fault in Our Stars)

Chapter 1

Everyone is overly excited that Gus is awake. Gus soon gets tired and asks everyone to leave. All but me.

As everybody walks towards the door, Gus leans in and starts to align his lips to mine. The kiss starts a tingling current inside of my body. I pull away knowing that Gus is struggling to hide his pain. We are alone now.

"I love you, Gus." I stare up into his eyes.

"I love you too, Hazel Grace." Gus croaks. "I wish I could've been here longer.. for you."

"Augustus don't. I'm glad I got what I did, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way." I state.

"Hazel Grace, I don't know what I'd do without you. And know that when I'm gone, I'll be watching out for you. On your first heartbreak, your first day of college, I'll be there for all of those."

"But I've already had my first heartbreak and it's here when I have to say goodbye to you."

I stop him from responding, and I wrap my arms around him. I feel how frail he is and I loosen my grip. I then realize how hard I'be been holding on.

We are separated by a knock on the door. A nurse walks in and says "Hazel, it's time to give Augustus some rest. It's already a miracle that he's here now, don't want to jeopardize that."

I nod and wave goodbye to Augustus.

"Okay." He says.

"Okay." I respond back.

AUGUSTUS POV

As I see Hazel Grace leave, I realize how lucky I am to have her. I'm lucky that I got that much time with her. Would I choose to never have invited her over to watch a movie? The answer is no. I know that she will be sad to see me gone, but the truth is she was meant to be apart of my life. There was always a part of me that regretted this whole thing. Now as I've seen her leave I realize this was the plan all along.

As I think, I slowly feel my eyes shutting down and making it harder to blink. I fight to blink, but I loose and now I'm surrounded in darkness.

HAZEL GRACE POV

I walk into the parking lot oxygen tube in one hand, keys in the other. I open the car door and prepare myself for my parents. I left in such a hurry I forgot to tell them where I was headed. I start the engine.

Before I start to make my way to my house, I decide to drop by Isaac's house. It's 5 in the morning, but who knows what he's even doing. I knock on the door multiple times, but I get no response.

I decide to leave a note on the door after waiting 10 minutes.
