Chapter 18; 'Congratulations, it's a...'

~Alexis POV~

I woke up in my bed to the smell of pancakes and coffee.

I hopped out of bed and put on Evan's shirt, it was just long enough to cover, I was half naked, except for my panties.

I followed the scent which led me to the kitchen where Evan stood, wearing his sweatpants but no shirt.

I sat down on one of the barstools, watching his every move.

It took him a while before he was aware of my presence, so I snook up to him and snaked my arms around his waist.

Evan gasped but he turned around instantly and cupped my cheeks as he pulled me in for a sweet kiss.

'Goodmorning, beautiful.' He smiled as he decorated the pancakes with fresh strawberries and ho chocolate sauce.

I poured two cups of the fresh coffee he just made.

Since Emma and Evan broke up, he's been giving me all of his attention.

We sat down on the barstools and ate our breakfast. 'Ev, this is really good.' I smiled.

'Thanks, it's a recipe from my mom.'

Suddenly, Evan gasped and jumped up. 'Where you going?' I aked him with a mouth full of pancakes.

'Just a second, babe.' He winked as he went to, I suppose, the bathroom.

Babe? Evan had called me a lot of things in those eight months we had been dating, but he had never called me babe before.

He used to call Emma that, all the time.

He came back and stood in the doorframe. 'Are you finished?'

I nodded and he held out his hand. I stood up from the barstool and followed him into my bathoom.

I gasped in shock at the sight. There were scented candles everwhere, rose petals and a load of foam in the tub, which was filled to the brim.

'Evan,...' I looked at him.

'Well, what are we waiting for?' He chuckled.

I slid off his shirt and my panties and he undressed himself as well.

Evan helped me in the tub and followed as we sat down in the hot water.

His dark eyes pierced into mine as I laid back. 'Why're you staring?' I giggled.

'Because this is how you look more beautiful than ever to me.' He smirked.

'What, naked?'

Evan laughed, a real, perfect sounding laugh. 'No, just like this, you're not even trying to be pretty or something, you're just being you. And that, is the most beautiful a woman can be.'

I stared in awe at him as he said those words.

'Come here.' He said as I sat in between his legs. Evan started washing my hair carefully. 'When do we have to be at the doctor's?'

'Eleven. We'll be knowing what gender it is.' I replied as he pushed me down carefully to wash the shampoo out of my hair.

'Oh.' Was all that came out of his mouth.

Evan held open the door for me as we walked into Dr. Harvey's office.

'Alexis, it is a pleasure to see you again, in a much better state, if I might add.' She smiled politely at me.

'I do feel a lot better, thank you.' I smiled as we shook hands.

I gestured to Evan. 'Oh, Dr. Harvey, this is Evan, the father of my child.. Our child.'

'Well, it is a great pleasure to meet you.' She said as she shook is hand.

I followed the directions as I laid down on the table so she could get to work.

I watched Evan sitting beside me on a chair, tapping his foot and playing with his sleeve.

'Ev, are you nervous?' I chuckled.

He shrugged as he looked at me. 'It's not like I go to a gyneacologist every day, Alex... Besides, it's also about my family.'

I smiled at the way he said family, it suddenly all felt so real.

Dr. Harvey looked at the screen as she gasped happily. 'Are you ready?'

I looked at Evan, who nodded his head furiously.

'Congratulations, you are expecting a healthy daughter.' Dr. Harvey smiled at us.

Evan sighed happily, closing his eyes as he held on to my hand.

Then he opened his eyes, his dark brown gaze met mine instantly. 'We're having a daughter...'

'Yes.' I laughed.

'Alex?' He suddenly went serious.

'Yeah?'

'I know we had a rough start and I know I can't take back all my mistakes, even though I really want to believe me. But this, this isn't a mistake, Alexis. This is a gift and I can't thank God enough for having you, and this growing life inside of you. And I promise you, I will do anything to make sure the two of you are safe, and happy. I promise.' Evan said as he kissed my knuckles, a tear fel down his heek as I started to tear up myself.

I caressed his face with my fingertips. 'I know, baby, I know. Listen, this is all going to work out, okay? We're gonna have a beautiful life together. I love you so much.'

Evan pressed his lips onto mine.

'You can sit up now.' Dr. Harvey said softly, causing me and Evan to gasp since we had already forgotten she was here.

I fixed my sweater as we got ready to leave.

And finally, my shot at happiness had come.
