Chapter 14 ~ Investigating

Blüdhaven

Nightwing and Red Robin were both standing on top of a five floors building located in the city's suburb. The night was quite dark, probably because of the heavily clouded sky which was making it impossible for any ray of the Moon to get through them. It was also surprisingly silent compared to the omnipresent noise made downtown due to the various activities. Blüdhaven night's life was way livelier than Gotham's. However, this only happened since Nightwing was ensuring the city's security. Despite the fact that walking through Blüdhaven's downtown at night was safer than it used to be, it was still extremely dangerous to go in the suburb alone, or unarmed...

The two heroes peered at an old warehouse which was facing the docks located at around 150 meters from the building they were on. The streets were empty from everything. No cars, no people, not even an animal. If it wasn't for the few snowflakes which were silently falling, covering progressively the whole landscape with a thin white blanket, it would have been easy to think that the time had been paused.

"Don't you think it's a bit cliché?" Red Robin asked suddenly, breaking the silence.

"What?"

"The labs of the new drug lord being located in an old crappy warehouse outside the city. Looks pretty cliché to me..."

Nightwing sighed and rolled his eyes under his mask. "It's the only serious lead we have for the moment. We need to follow it. Who knows, maybe that the labs are here. So yes, it is cliché, but it costs nothing to check." He then took his small binoculars, activated the night vision and observed silently the warehouse's surroundings. "There is no one outside of it..."

"It could be a trap, y'know..." Dick rolled his eyes and gently pushed his brother who was crouched just next to him.

"We need to check it anyway. Otherwise Jason will kill us." Tim sighed. He knew that Dick was right. However, it was suspicious that there were no guards outside of the building to keep it. "I can see two cameras. One on each side of the entrance. It means that there must be a few others disseminated all around the place."

"Yup," he replied while he rubbed his hands, trying to chase away the cold which was slowly taking ahold of him even though he had been careful to choose some specific materials which would have avoided it but that night was particularly cold (and it could also be because of the fact that the teen had only slept five hours during the last three days...).

"Alright" Dick declared, "we obviously aren't going to walk in by the main entrance, but I saw that there were windows on top of the warehouse's roof. We will try to sneak inside like that. We just have to stay unnoticed by the cameras, do you think you can hack them from here? I broke my computer's gauntlet during my last fight with Deathstroke and I need to repair it. "

Tim rolled his eyes and replied with a small smirk "of course I can. I could even hack Gotham's CCTV from here." Then, he started to type on the mini-laptop which was on his gauntlet. After a few minutes, he had successfully hacked the cameras to stay in playback so it was safe for them to get near them without being noticed.

"Alright, let's go" Nightwing said as he climbed down the building, quickly followed by Red Robin. The two walked stealthily, the snow cracking softly under their footsteps. They quickly reached the warehouse's right side and hid behind a tall pile of crates. They climbed on top of it easily as the building was made of old red bricks. Once on top of the roof, Red Robin tried to open a window, but it was locked. He sighed and tried another. It opened with a loud squeaking and both Nightwing and Red Robin gritted their teeth.

"For the discretion, it's dead..." Red Robin muttered under his breath and Nightwing nodded with a light laugh. Red Robin was the first one to sneak into the building, slipping through the window and landing almost noiselessly on the floor of the building's first level. He activated the night vision on his mask and scanned the area to see if they were alone in the warehouse or not. After a few minutes, he concluded that the place was deserted so Nightwing joined his side.
