(A/N: Sorry it took so long to update. I've been rather busy with school.)

Thorin's POV

I watched in horror as Azog's blow hit Y/N and she fell. For a moment, all I could do was stare as the vile creature smirked and cursed me in Black Speech. Then, I felt the anger bubbling again. I would not fail in killing the monster that had slain my grandfather, my nephew and now my love. I charged him with every ounce of energy I had left and ran him through. Then, I removed his head from his shoulders kicking his body away. Upon realizing Azog was dead, the remaining orcs attempted retreat.

I ran over to Y/N and held her in my arms. "No, Amrâlimê please look at me," I begged. She did not open her eyes and my body began to shake with sobs. "Thorin!" I heard Bilbo's voice call to me, but I could not answer. "Thorin? the eagles are coming!" He saw Y/N in my arms and he sank down next to me. She'd had such an impact on the entire company. "Is she...?" All I could do was nod. We simply sat for several minutes until we heard Kili's voice.

"Fee! Mister Dwalin! I found-" Kili was cut off by the sight of us. Dwalin came running and then I saw Fili. I should have been overjoyed. She had saved him. While he was breathing, she was not. I looked down at her blood and dirt caked face. She looked so peaceful that sobs overtook me again. After a few more moments, I stood with her in my arms ignoring the pain in my foot. As we made our way back to the mountain, another figure came out of the shadows. "Oakenshield, you fought well." Thranduil. I gritted my teeth. He was the last person I wanted to see right now.

His gaze traveled to where Y/N laid in my arms and his expression changed. He looked almost...distressed. "Thorin...I am sorry," he said and I fought back more tears. I would not give him the satisfaction. "Perhaps I can help." I looked up at him and still saw the sadness in his face. "Why would you do that?" He did not answer but said, "We have healing tents up and I will find a space for her. You should bring her down." With that he left. I glanced at Dwalin who shrugged. I did not want that elf to touch her, but it was my own pride that had gotten her killed in the first place.

Dwalin placed a hand on my shoulders. I felt lost and hopeless. I decided to take my beloved to the healing tent. Perhaps Thranduil could help her after all. I'd heard of certain elves being able to heal enough to bring someone back from the brink of death. I was uncertain if I should trust him, but he could not make it worse. As I carried Y/N down, I passed by my company. As we passed them, their faces were masks of grief, much like mine. They had all loved her too and that made it all the worse.

Thranduil himself opened the tent for us. "Lay her there," he said indicating to a cot in the corner. I did as he asked and backed away. "You should have a healer look at your own injury while I tend to her. She will be safe with me. You have my word," the Elvenking said softly with not ounce of cruelty or malice in his voice. "Take care of her," I managed to choke out before hobbling to find another healer. Thranduil pulled a curtain around them, but I could not bring myself to stray far from her. Seeing her lying there lifeless nearly broke my heart all over again. I was punishing myself for letting her be killed.

Had I not let the sickness overwhelm me, she would have been in Erebor with me and I could have kept her safe. As I sat I thought about how wrong I was and the guilt washed over me. I would not back down now. I would rebuild Erebor and be a good king for her. I would put aside my pride and strive for forgiveness from my people and forgive those that I thought betrayed us. All for her. And if Thranduil could bring her back to me, I would spend the rest of my life showing her how much she meant to me.

"Uncle?" Fili approached me. I wrapped my arms around him praising Mahal that at least he was alive. "She saved my life, Uncle. I hope Thranduil can save her. For all our sakes, but mostly yours. I know you love her," my nephew spoke quietly. The healer came over and mended my foot telling me not to put too much weight on it for a while. I nodded and limped back over to a chair where I could wait to hear about my love.

What seemed like hours later, Thranduil reappeared and looked at me. "I am not surprised to find you waiting. She is breathing and her heart beats. I cannot say if she will ever wake. That is up to her now," he said. Once again I asked, "Why would you do this? It is no secret how I feel about your kind." He looked at Y/N and then back to me before answering, "I have no love of dwarves, Oakenshield. You know this. However, this young woman lying here is someone special. She is a fighter and warrior yet at the same time can be kind and understanding. She brings out the compassion in you as well. You could not have chosen a queen more worthy of the title and I would see her by your side."

I could not speak. His words rang true in my ears. Y/N was all those things and more and he had seen it in the short time he had with her. "Thank you. I hope for her sake we can mend our broken trust. I intend to rebuild Erebor into a great kingdom once again and be a greater king than my grandfather," I finally said. "Will you take her into Erebor?" he asked and I nodded. "As soon as I can ensure her well being inside the mountain." I called for Balin. "Tell everyone to rest tonight. Tomorrow, we begin rebuilding."

*Time Skip*

After four days, we'd finally cleaned up enough to bring Y/N into Erebor. She still had not awoken but her breathing was strong. It gave me hope. On the fifth day, Thranduil entered the mountain to check her progress. "I have no doubt that she will wake, Thorin." I gave him a smile and reached into my tunic. "I believe these are yours." I held out the gems of pure starlight that he so desperately wanted when my company was in Mirkwood.

"I thank you." He bowed to me and left. I'd also given the city of Dale the gold I'd promised them. We were also assisting their new king, Bard in rebuilding the city. At the end of every day, I went to Y/N's healing tent, sat next to her bed and spoke to her. Somehow I knew she could hear me. I needed to believe that she could hear me. Thranduil was right, she would wake.

After three weeks of rebuilding, I had Balin draw up two treaties outlining the relationships between Erebor and Mirkwood and Dale. We decided to open the trade market again. During one evening when I was reading over the contracts with Balin, Ori came bounding into the room. "Thorin!" He gasped out and I looked up. "She's awake!"
