Forgotten

Thorin's POV

I saw her face above me when I woke. She was lovely, but I had no idea who she was or what she was doing. I did not even recall where we were. I asked the burglar who she was and the aforementioned woman sat straight up and brought her hand to her mouth. "T-Thorin? What do you mean, who am I?" I turned to her and said," I do not know you, woman. I do know that you should not address me so informally." Tears formed in her eyes.

"Thorin, that's Y/N your betrothed. How can you not remember? You announced to all of Erebor at the feast last night." I shot up. "Erebor?! When did we get to Erebor?!" How could I not remember reclaiming Erebor? "We only just freed ourselves from those three trolls." The hobbit gave me an odd look. The woman was now crying quietly in the corner talking to Balin, who had just arrived. "We reclaimed Erebor months ago. We've rebuilt it as well as the city of Dale. You were crowned four nights ago," Master Baggins explained to me as I continued watching the woman. Balin left her side for a moment and approached the bed.

"Thorin, lad. How do you not remember Y/N? She was with us for most of our quest. She saved your life and Fili's as well." I growled in frustration. How did they not understand that I had never seen this woman before in my life! "Get out!" They all turned to leave. "Except you, Balin." Bilbo pulled the now sobbing woman from the room. "Now, Balin. Tell me everything that happened that lead to us reclaiming our beloved Erebor."

Your POV

Bilbo pulled me from Thorin's room and stayed with me while I sobbed. The entire company along with Dis had been standing outside the room when we left. "What happened?" I opened my mouth to speak, but only more cries came out. Bilbo never let go of my hand as he recalled what had happened. "Papa was right," I whispered when I finally stopped crying. They all looked at me, curious. "He told me never to fall in love. You just get hurt in the end." Dis walked over to me and shook my shoulders. "You get that thought from your head right now, girl!" I looked at her wide eyed as she continued, "Love is a wonderful thing and I know that my brother loves you! You have brought out a side of him I have not seen since our parents were alive. I'm sure love has changed you as well." Her voice got softer and softer as she spoke.

"What happened to make him forget?" I shrugged and Dis finally let go of my shoulders. "Dis, did you notice anything odd after you left my chambers last night?" Her brows knit together in confusion. "Lass, I was in the kitchens last night from about 10 onward. I never saw you." I opened my mouth to protest, but Kili interrupted me. "But, Amad. We saw you take her away from Uncle and lead her out of the ballroom." The Bofur added, "And I saw you give Thorin some ale a little while later." Dis shook her head. "I swear to you lot, I never left the kitchens!"

It was like lightning hit my brain. "Bofur, did anything odd happen after Dis gave Thorin his ale?" I asked, holding up my hand to cut off the dwarrowdam's protest. Bofur thought for a moment. Before he could answer, Balin finally emerged from Thorin's chambers. "It appears that our King does not remember anything that happened since just before Y/N joined our quest. I cannot say how or why." He looked as miserable as I felt. "Bofur, please." He looked at me and then said, "He retired not long after he drank his ale. Not like him at all and then he did not wake until you went in."

"So, I am lead away by Dis and suddenly cannot stay awake. Then Thorin is given ale by Dis, cannot stay awake and now cannot remember nearly a year back...this has the Wicked Witch written all over it!" I balled my fists and shook with rage. I felt a solid object in my cloak. "I have to do something. This cannot go on any longer!" I stormed into my chambers and slammed the door. Ignoring the knocks at the door, I pulled the object from my cloak. It was a leather bound book. I opened to the first page and felt the tears as I saw neatly sprawled handwriting that must have been my mother's. It was journal! I read entry after entry of how my mother discovered her own powers and spells she learned.

The last few passages frightened me. She described a great evil trying to regain strength in Middle Earth that her magic had no power against. It would turn all the races against each other. She was determined to escape with the man she loved and her...unborn child. I swallowed hard as I continued to fight back tears. I slammed the book closed so hard, it fell off the desk. I bent down to pick it up and a folded paper slipped out. I opened it and found that it was a letter.

My darling child,

Words cannot express how much a already love you. I know that you will find this one day because it is in your blood to return to my and your father's homeland. This beautiful place called Middle Earth. By now you know that there is magic in you whether you found it on your own or it was taught to you. Beware my darling for magic can corrupt even the most pure of hearts. The choice however is yours. No one can make you dark if you do not let them.

Dearest heart, I am sorry that your father and I could not tell you all this while you were with us. We can never return to Middle Earth, but I know that you will be able to. It is your fate to do great things in my home world. I know you will do what is right and good, my lovely child. Be kind and courageous and it will serve you well. My dear Y/N, know that we believe in you and love you with all our hearts.

Love always,

Your mother Serena.

I clutched the letter to my chest and sobbed. My chamber door flew open and the company poured in. Dis was next to me in a fraction of a second. I gave her a watery smile and handed her the letter. Her eyes watered as well and she pulled me into a hug. After my tears stopped, my resolve hardened. Sitting there crying, I'd finally come up with a plan. "I'm going to stop the witch. That's the only way to get Thorin to remember. I need you all to try and help him while I do this. Part of my plan has to be secret. I also need someone to get a message to Thranduil and Bard. I'll need them here soon."

Bifur and Gloin offered to go to Mirkwood and take my message to Thranduil and Bilbo volunteered to take my message to Bard. I quickly wrote out two copies of a letter, told them to send a message by bird when they were ready to come home and sent them to their destinations by magic. I then looked for a secluded place in the mountain. The only place I could find was the dungeon. I took a deep breath knowing that what I was about to do would not be easy. As I exhaled, I breathed one name. From behind me I heard, "Hello, dearie."
