beeeeeeeeeep. beeeeeeeeeeep. beeeeeeeeeeeep.
calum jolts up in bed, his alarm clock waking him up. this was not good. calum's alarm was set to go off an hour after his alarms on his phone, and it was simply meant to remind calum what time it was. school started at 9:00, but most days calum arrived at 6:30 or 7:00 to train before classes. the alarm went off at 7:30, so most of the time calum didn't even hear it- he turned it off before he left, as it would go off until someone manually turned it off. looking at the alarm clock now though, calum felt sick. the red numbers said 8:24. calum couldn't be late for school, as he'd get into so much trouble with his dad.
running to brush his teeth, calum did some mental math. in order to get to school right at 9:00, he'd have to leave at 8:30. hard, considering he had six minutes, but doable in his opinion. as he brushed his teeth, calum pulled some uniform out of the laundry. he hadn't had time to do it last night, so he was stuck wearing unwashed clothes. sighing, the tan boy grabs his backpack from its place on the floor next to his desk, sliding back into the washroom to finish brushing his teeth. calum tears down the stairs, glad that his parents are both out of the house by 5:00 to get to their law firm on time. seeing him in such a state would only make them mad.
the tan boy skips breakfast, pulling on his timberlands. they weren't nice looking shoes, in calum's opinion, but they were expensive and all the "popular" kids had them. calum's parents were more than fine with giving him money as long as he behaved, so in order to fit in calum got the boots. he also adorned a canada goose jacket- another essential to be "cool." admittedly, calum found it warm, but he still thought it was overpriced. running out the door, the kiwi boy locked it before jogging to the bus stop. the bus arrives in under five minutes, and calum pulls open the starbucks app once he sits down. he orders a coffee and breakfast for him to pick up at the location closest to his school, just five minutes away.
calum makes it to school at 8:57, because he slightly overestimated waiting time for the bus. he runs by michael's locker, but is disappointed to see the small human at their locker. he can't discreetly put a conversation heart on their locker door when michael is there! calum sighs, not having the time to wait around. he stops by his locker and is able to slide into his desk in philosophy before his teacher gets to the room. he does arrive four minutes late, but he'll get off scot-free because miss heit hasn't arrived to class yet. luke gives calum a sideways glance, as if to say "what happened to you?"
the tan boy is at a loss for words. he certainly can't tell luke that he overslept- he never does that, he's always training in the morning. calum puts on a fake smile, hoping it doesn't look like a grimace. "i got caught up talking to coach about the upcoming training season."
thankfully, luke believes the lie. "i'm dreading when that starts," the blond rolls his eyes. "all those people who pay the gym fee and flock the weight room will try to get fit with machines they don't know how to use. thankfully none of them last long, though."
"yeah," calum halfheartedly agrees. he looks down at the plain white desk, hoping that the rest of his day won't be as bad as the morning. but, the tan boy knows that it won't happen.
"miss heit?" the p.a crackles to life in the classroom.
a brave student answers the secretary, as the teacher in question hasn't arrived in class yet. "miss heit isn't here yet."
"okay, well can luke hemmings and calum hood please come and see mr brady?" the secretary asks.
"on our way," luke says strongly, not conveying what his face says. the p.a dies down, and everyone turns to look at luke and calum. they've been called to the principal's office, so by default every eye is on them. the blond sighs, and picks up his bag to leave. calum mimics his actions, leaving the classroom to get their eyes off of him.
