I broke into a sweat as I ran through the damp corridor. I could see a brilliant white glow at the end but somehow, the faster I ran, the smaller the light got. The closer I tried to go, the further it went. I could hear his footsteps behind me: his creepy, hungry footsteps that craved for me.

"I'm coming, Cassidy." his voice hissed loudly from somewhere behind me, "I'm coming for you."

"No!" I screamed and forced my feet to move faster.

"Hush, sweetheart! There's no use tiring yourself by all that running. Come to me." I heard his whisper again.

"Go away!" I shrieked back.

"Cassy!"

"No!"

"Cassy!

"Leave me alone!"

"Cassy!"

"Cassy! Wake up! Cassy!"

My eyes popped open as I sat up in my bed with a jerk, my brow covered by a layer of sweat. My palms were moist and my hands shook.

"Cassy? Honey, what happened?" Granny's concerned voice reached my ears as I tried to shake off the daze.

"Granny?" I mumbled.

"Yes, honey. I just came back from my trip an hour ago."

"Oh..."

"I heard you screaming something in your sleep so I came to check. Is everything okay?"

"Y-yes. I just had a bad dream. Nothing big."

"You sure?"

"Yes, Granny. You can go to sleep."

I managed a weak smile as she turned to go.

1:53 a.m., the clock of my cellphone showed. Five hours to go till morning. However, I couldn't sleep. Not after that nightmare. I fiddled with my cellphone and dialled a number absent-mindedly.

"Hello?" a deep sleepy voice answered a second before I was about to disconnect.

"Hi..." I whispered shyly.

"Cassy? Hey. Is everything okay?"

I could hear him sitting up and throwing off the sheets.

"I...couldn't sleep."

"I'm glad you called me. What's up?"

"I, you know, had a nightmare."

"Tell me about it."

"I can't."

"Okay...?"

"I'm sorry for calling this late, Niall."

"Hey! Don't be sorry. You have a right to call me anytime. Sleep is a mere sacrifice if I get to hear your voice."

In spite of my mood, I smiled and blushed.

"I wish I could see that blush right now." he chuckled.

"Who said I'm blushing?" I bantered back.

"My instinct which, by the way, is really strong."

"Yeah, right."

"So, what else?"

"I still can't sleep."

"Okay, let's do something about your beauty sleep, then."

There was silence for a minute as I waited patiently.

Suddenly, I heard the strumming of a guitar.

A few seconds later, Niall's heavenly voice filled my ears. He was singing for me!

"Am I asleep, am I awake, or somewhere in between?

I can't believe that you are here and lying next to me

Or did I dream that we were perfectly entwined?

Like branches on a tree, or twigs caught on a vine?

Like all those days and weeks and months I tried to steal a kiss

And all those sleepless nights and daydreams where I pictured this,

I'm just the underdog who finally got the girl

And I am not ashamed to tell it to the world

Truly, madly, deeply, I am

Foolishly, completely falling

And somehow you caved all my walls in

So baby, say you'll always keep me

Truly, madly, crazy, deeply in love with you

In love with you..."

I couldn't help blushing as he sang softly. I didn't deserve this guy. At all. He was too amazing for me. He was simply...exquisite! And me? All messed up, dark and twisty. Shouldn't he be dating some tall, tanned and blonde cheerleader?

All these thoughts wandered into my mind as Niall kept humming and playing his six-string.

Slowly, I felt my eyelids getting heavier. I blinked and tried to refocus. However, after a minute or two, I was back to the dimension of sleep.

The only difference was that this time, I dreamt of my Irish boyfriend.

"We should go to our classes, shouldn't we?" I suggested as Niall and I cuddled in the old abandoned ballet studio.

My own personal paradise.

"Yeah?" he mumbled as he cupped my face with his hands and twirled a strand of my hair.

I nodded in response. Skipping classes had never been my piece of cake.

"You sure?" he asked again, taking my hand in his and kissing it.

"Or...maybe we can stay here for some more time." I muttered sheepishly, pecking his lips lightly.

"Perfect." he whispered, closing his eyes and resting his head on the cracked mirror behind us, our fingers securely entwined.

I played with his blonde hair as he murmured sweet nothings to me.

Except that they weren't sweet nothings. They were some of the most loving and meaningful things ever said to me.

Feeling content, I rested my head on his strong and muscular shoulder.

Life was good.
