The Day It All Began....

I sat silently by the café’s window, sipping my Cappuccino. Physically, I was present there with all my friends but mentally, I was as lost as lost can be. I am like that--- always daydreaming, lost in some far-off world of my own. I often wonder how some people manage to talk so much! Doesn’t it get really irritating after a decent amount of time? I’ll never understand people.

“Cassy! Cassy! Earth to Cassy!” I heard Riley’s voice and brought my mind back to reality, only to find Riley snapping her fingers in front of my face. The rest of my friends were also staring at me, shaking their heads in a ‘not-again’ kind of way. They always get annoyed when I don’t participate in conversations.

“Why are you so quiet, Cassy, why? Don’t you like hanging around with us or what? Is there a problem? Tell me!” Jess asked, visibly irritated.

A nice song was playing on the radio. I thought and thought but failed to register its name.

“Cassy?! You there?!” Jess asked again, exasperated like anything. I brought myself back to reality and got ready to make a fake apology.

“I’m sorry guys. I’m not much of an extrovert or ultra-friendly or….” My voice trailed off and my midsentence was left hanging as I noticed someone behind Jess and Riley.

I had lost my power of speech as I stared at him, transfixed. His blonde hair and blue eyes mesmerized me to no extent. Everything slowed down suddenly and I just sat there, hypnotized.

I could have stared at him for hours and hours if Alex’s voice didn’t interrupt my reverie, “Hello?! Cassy?! Now what happened??” I shook my head, as if doing that would help.

“Um, I….uh….never mind. So girls, I was just wondering about that guy behind you. Um, you people wouldn’t know who is he, would you?” I asked, trying to sound normal.

They turned around to get a proper view. “Oh, that? He's Liam! He just joined our school. So did his friends.” Riley answered, quite surprised that I didn’t know that guy.

“No, not him. The other one! The blonde one.” I said, desperate to know about him.

“Oh, him. That’s Niall. Niall Horan. How come you don’t know those guys? They’re in a band, you know, One Direction? Cassy! Their song ‘Save You Tonight’ is playing right now! How can you not know them? They are super-famous! Every girl has been talking about them.” Jess replied, staring at the 5 guys with awe.

“Niall Horan? Okay….I’ll keep that in mind.” I mumbled as I stole one last look at the guy.

Alex, Jess and Riley kept talking but I was too thoughtful to notice.

Jess had said that he was famous. And also that all the girls had been talking about him. Well, then there was absolutely no chance he was going to notice me. And no, I was not underestimating myself or anything. Average guys at school didn't notice me or if they did, they never found me attractive or anything. As I said, I was an introvert. Or, as my schoolmates would say, ‘arrogant’. Well, to each their own. I couldn’t care less. Anyways, point was that a guy like Niall would never, I repeat, never shower any attention on me. So what? Who said he had to know about my gigantic crush on him? Not that he would like me back or something.

Nevertheless, Niall Horan was one interesting guy!
