The Past Has Passed.

As I walked to school, my thoughts wandered off to Niall (yet again) and our little ‘encounter’. Gosh! That smile! His front teeth were kind of crooked and while they’d have looked ugly on any other guy, they looked adorable on Niall. And his blonde hair and blue eyes! Come to think of it now, they strongly reminded me of someone else…another man whom I used to love dearly, but who was no longer in my life. I rarely talked about him and tried to conceal his memories in the ‘Keep Out’ section of my mind. But then Niall came.

And then, it struck me. Even though Niall’s features were not exactly uncommon, I was still attracted towards him. Why? Because he had a strong resemblance with the ‘someone’ I just mentioned.

Memories came rushing back and I was suffocated with a powerful feeling of nostalgia. “Why did you do this to me?!” I wanted to ask him and demand for a justification but I couldn’t, no matter what. He was long gone. Yeah, that’s right. After scarring me for life, he simply left. Without thinking even once, he just abandoned me. What did he consider? Starting afresh would be all diamonds and rubies for me?! Ha! Hardly! But no! He was firm with his decision: he claimed to be bored with his life and needed some change of scene, some spice. So he simply….left, sans any concern. And then people say I’m a pessimist. May I ask whose fault is that now? At least he could have---

Suddenly, a car honks nearby, interrupting my train of thought. I could feel tears running on my cheeks. Good thing I didn’t wear any makeup. Mascara-stained cheeks would have been a bit of embarrassment.

I wiped those darn tears away and composed myself. I needed to get back to my normal, unfazed-by-anything self before reaching school. Nothing could be worse than Riley firing away questions at me like a cop, first thing in the morning.

“Hey! Cassidy, right? Sup?” Niall exclaimed as he saw me in the corridor. Was it just my wishful thinking or did he actually seem happy to see me?

“Hey, um, nothing much. Was just going to the class.” I answered, staring at the floor, afraid he might make out that I had been crying.”Uh….something wrong? You look upset. All okay?” he asked, concern evident in his voice. Damn!

“Err, yeah….no…I mean, yes everything is fine. I just remembered something not-so-good. That’s it.” I muttered.

“Oh! It’s okay. Don’t worry. The past has passed.” He said, putting his hand on my shoulder (!) and giving me shivers all over. Crap! I almost melted under his touch!

“Niall! Where have you been buddy? I was looking for you. Come on, let’s go or we’ll be late for the class.” I heard a voice just as I was about to thank Niall. I turned around to see the owner of the voice. It was Liam Payne---Niall’s friend and band mate.

“Yeah, sure.” Niall replied, “I was just talking to my new friend-Cassidy.”

Friend! Nice!

“Oh! Hey Cassidy. I’m Liam.” Liam introduced himself warmly and I instantly felt better. The guy had a way of making people comfy.

“Hey there. Pleased to meet you.” I answered with equal warmth.

“Pleasure is all mine, Madame!” he said, winking.

“Ha-ha, yeah sure! Anyways guys, now you’d have to excuse me as I gotta go. Ciao! And by the way, it’s Cassy for friends.” I waved and walked away, happy with my exit line.

Later, during Math class I remembered Niall’s words. “PAST HAS PASSED” his voice echoed in my head. He was right. It had all passed.

School wasn’t so bad, after all. All thanks to a certain Irish, blue-eyed, blonde singer.
