Head Over Heels in LOVE!

The next day which, for the record, was a Monday, I woke up surprisingly excited. Now this was a first! I never quite liked my school or waking up for it so I was certain something wasn’t right. And then, it hit me:  I was excited by the prospect of seeing Niall. Crap! This was something totally unprecedented! I was 16 and till then, absolutely no one had had the power to disconcert me so much! But this Niall guy really had an effect on me. His blonde hair which were fit for a shampoo commercial and those eyes! Man, one could easily drown in those deep, blue eyes. And me? I was already scuba-diving in them!

“Cassy! Get up! You’re gonna be late! Get up!” Granny's loud scream rudely jolted me out of my scuba-diving fantasies. I got out of bed reluctantly and tried to focus on getting ready for school. That day was weirdly unusual. I actually took a little extra time in front of the mirror. Me--- the girl who couldn’t care less about clothes, make-up and other likewise things! Whew! Things love can do to a girl! Wait, who said this was love? For all I knew, this could have been lust or infatuation or whatever, right? Right! I was just overreacting.

Well, turned out I didn’t need to worry about my appearance at all, as Niall was surrounded by at least a hundred girls when I reached school.

Although I did get a raised-eyebrow look from Riley.

“What?” I asked, playing innocent

“You look different.” Riley replied, narrowing her eyes.

“Me? No!”

“Uh, yes! It actually looks like you made an effort in getting ready.”

“What? Me? Ha-ha! No!”

“Stop it, Cass! I know you did it for Niall. You like him, don’t you?”

“I don’t!”

“Yes, you do. I noticed the ‘lovesick’ look in your eyes yesterday.”

“Lovesick?! Eww! No! And besides, he’s not my type.”

“Fine. Keep lying.”

And with that she walked away, shaking her head. It sucks to have a friend who knows every damn thing about you. I just hoped she’d forget about this little exchange by the end of the day.

Huh! No such luck. As soon as the school got over, Riley was overexcited, wanting to know each and every detail. And what could I tell her, anyway? That I was in love (or lust?) with this super-famous singer who didn’t even know I exist? Wow, so romantic, right?

So when I didn’t say anything, she just went, “Fine! Don’t tell me nut I know you like him. And I agree. Those blond hair and blue eyes are super-gorgeous!” Now that set me thinking. It wasn’t as if he was the only guy with those features, but still there was something unusual about him. I couldn’t put my finger on it but nevertheless, I knew he wasn’t just another average guy with above average looks.

The next day, as I got ready, my thoughts wandered off to Niall. I had Googled him the night before and shit! The guy was famous! How come I hadn’t heard about One Direction? Well, this is what you get for being lost in your own world. Anyways, I found out that he was Irish, loved ‘Nando’s’ and some other random stuff. I also listened to some of his solos and man! He was pretty awesome! As I recalled some of the lyrics, something struck me. Was I yet another fan? Stalking him and fan-girling like crazy? Fan--- the word itself made me feel so…small! God! I had to stop thinking!

That day, I didn’t make any effort in looking different or better. I was determined to be unaffected by Niall. At least, I pretended to be unaffected by Niall. I desperately wanted to prove Riley wrong, desperately.

Well, this time, it turned out that I did need to worry about my appearance, because as soon as I entered the school hall, I collided into someone, sending my books flying and ending up on the floor with him. And guess what? The ‘someone’ in question was none other than-you guessed it-Niall. He started helping me in gathering my books and papers (some of which were still floating in the air). “Thanks.” I mumbled and looked up. Big mistake! I was lost in those blue, gorgeous eyes. Once again, everything slowed down. Now, imagine the scenario: Both of us, crouched on the floor while papers floated all around us and I, staring at him with my head tilted to one side and a strange smile hovering on my lips. All those romantic novels and movies that I usually loathed had started making sense. I half expected him to look up and confess his love for me while soft jazz music played in the background. And then we would---

“Here, your books.” he suddenly said, bursting the bubble of my fantasies. I (reluctantly) brought myself back to reality only to find him smiling, my books in his hand which was extended towards me. “Thanks.” I mumbled again as I took my books. Our fingers brushed for a second and undoubtedly, there it was! That tingly, electric feeling we all read about in every love story could be easily felt.

“Your welcome and I’m sorry. I should have watched where I was going.” He said, flashing those pearly whites.

“It’s-it’s fine.” I mumbled nervously.

“I’m Niall, by the way. Niall Horan.” He said, still smiling.

“I-I’m Ca-Cassidy.” I muttered shyly, mentally kicking myself for stuttering like a maniac.

“It was a pleasure meeting you Cassidy. I hope to see you around.” And with that, he was gone, leaving me stunned for a while. Outside, I was as calm as calm can be but inside, all along, my heart was screaming, “Oh my Gosh! You just talked to him! He said your name!” Yeah, he said my name. my name had never sounded so beautiful. My average name was graced by his perfect voice. The day couldn’t have been any better!

That night, I dreamt of school halls and flying papers.
