Kiera
The sudden movement from Trev had me leaping out of Declan's arms and half way across the room from the both of them.
Trev slowly sat up and leaned heavily against Declan's closest that I had hid in what felt like forever ago.
He crossed his arms defiantly and looked between me and Declan.
Quirking his eyebrows, he sat there not saying anything.
I bunched my hands in fists by my side to keep from doing something stupid.
We all continued to square off in a silent staring contest until Declan broke the silence.
"You should be dead," he said.
"Wish I was," Trev whispered back, running both hands through his brown hair.
I ignored his comment and asked, "Why did you do this?" Maybe I thought I could find the Trev I knew before by wondering what he was up to.
"It won't matter if I explain myself because you guys won't believe me."
He was right, but I still said, "Try me."
Sighing heavily, Trev stood up and was quickly forced back on the hardwood floor by a sudden wind. He rolled the eyes that I used to trust at Declan.
"Listen, I have my reasons for joining with the Rebels and already know that you to can't sympathize with me. But whatever, I'll tell you anyway.
"I grew up without a power or wings. I was mocked by everyone around me, even the adults and was eventually forced out of The Sectors. I've been living in the Gray Sector for as long as Kiera has now. I told you that lie about erasing her mind and shit when I actually don't know anything about her childhood. I'm guessing the same thing happened to her, though since she didn't have a power either.
"I knew she would want to go to The Trials when I found her, so I thought that would be the perfect opportunity to get back into The Sector Walls. I could participate in The Trials.
"Anyway, a few years ago, I developed the power that I have now and trained alone whenever I could. I eventually found a group of Nephilim who had also been kicked out of The Walls for the same reason as me.
"We formed a tight alliance and agreed to get back at the Known Families for what they had done to us. When I got back in The Walls, I snuck the rest of my alliance in with me. I kept in contact with them at night during The Trials.
"You already know that Kiera gave us the perfect excuse to attack right then. That had been staged as a warning. Now the Known Families know that the Rebels are here.
"We wanted to prove to them that we are Nephilim. It was unfair what they did to us and therefore deserve to pay for it," he finished.
Declan and I were born silent. Jeez, I would have never thought Trev had been through that.
"I can't say I understand what you went through, because I don't. My story is similar to yours, but I had no recollection of having a power before," I said.
If I had known and been through what he had been through, would I have also joined the Rebels?
Then I began to think about Declan. He probably couldn't sympathize at all. He's always had a power and been the best at what he does.
