Kiera
I woke with a start in a cold sweat after having a nightmare about demons. Sitting up, I breathed heavy and wiped the sweat off my forehead.
I scrambled out of my bed when I heard the loud noises of chatter drifting down the hall from the cafeteria. I was late for breakfast again.
I quickly threw on the standard black suit that all of us had and dashed out into the hallway.
I walked into the cafe to see Declan gripping the front of Trev's suit and holding him a couple inches off the ground. I was too far away to hear what was being said between the two of them, but by their angry expressions I knew it couldn't be good.
I got so angry that all rational thought left me. I raised my arms above my head and swiped them back down.
A huge gust of wind blew right to the two idiots and knocked them apart. Declan crashed into the banquet table with all the food that no one got up to eat yet. He broke the table and the food covered him from head to toe. Trev flew in the opposite direction and slammed into the wall before crumpling to the ground.
I stood there shaking and looked around the room. A stunned silence descended upon the room and what felt like a million pairs of eyes landed on me.
Great. Way to not draw attention to myself. I just freaking used the wind power Declan had used on me the morning of The Trials Ceremony.
Declan and Trev mimicked all of the entrants' expressions and stared dumbly at me.
Clenching my fists, I turned my back on them all and ran out of the cafeteria. I didn't stop running until I found the glass doors leading to the backyard.
I yanked the door open and threw myself outside. This wasn't good. Everyone clearly saw what I just did. To them, I had just been a weak human. Now they saw what I could really do.
I climbed up the nearest tree and sat up on the highest branch. Wanting to see if I could make the wind come again, I raised my arms and repeated the action I had done in the cafeteria.
Nothing happened. Not even a small current blew by.
Strange.
I should have been able to do it. I kept repeating the movements over and over.
With a bang, the glass doors shattered when two bodies shoved through them.
Almost immediately, an even bigger gust of wind than I had made in the cafeteria blew out of my outstretched arms and once again flung Declan and Trev like rag dolls.
Slowly climbing to their feet, they looked directly at me and started talking at the same time.
"You're in deep shit this ti-"
"You're a badass, Kie-"
I smirked when Trev called me a badass, but it earned him a solid punch to the jaw from Declan. Not expecting it, Trev fell backwards and clutched his face.
"What the hell, dude?"
"What were you thinking, Kiera? Oh wait that's right. You weren't thinking. I've been trying to tell you to stay under the radar and what do you do? You use the power of the wind to completely toss us around like we don't weigh anything right in front of the entire cafeteria. Do you know what this means?" Declan was practically yelling and throwing his arms everywhere.
