I lift a small seed and toss it to Khay'rat. "Stop dropping them, that's all we have."
"Sorry, sir."
"Just be careful." He continues planting seeds as I pass Uncle Derek.
"How are you doing?" I ask.
"Better, now. Elizabeth is doing well and we're looking good on water."
"Double our patrol and help Crystal. How's Hannah?"
"Struggling. But she's getting better." Uncle Derek smirks and walks into the base. I stop at my destination, a makeshift gravesite, hidden in the forest. Skillfully carved into a large rock is Dandelion's name. The only dead without a home to return to. The funeral service had been emotional and painful. Kai built a coffin from broken wood shields and tree limbs. Derek, Hannah, Isaac, and I carried the coffin to its resting place. Little Derek cried the entire time, more painful than the service.
I run one hand over the name and whisper a soft prayer. I hope Aunt Cammy gets it.
"How are you doing?" I whip around, katana in my hand.
"Oh, it's you. I'm fine." Kazimir grabs my hand and picks me up for a moment then sets me on my feet. "Jack and Luke have returned. They say it's time."
I nod. I give one last look at Dandelion's resting place and start for base.
