I had been pacing all night, I was so selfish! I had forgotten about her, I wonder if her attacking was linked to mine, kind of. Should I ring Elliot? I have no idea what he would do but right now I definitely needed him to hold me in his arms.  Pulling my phone out of my pocket I dialled his number, he picked up on the third ring.

“Hey baby what’s up?” he asked cheerfully.

“Um, can you come to the hospital please?” I asked in a shaky voice,

Instantly his voice was filled with worry and concern, “Why are you at the hospital? Are you ok?”

“Yeah, it’s just- please?” Now my voice was barely a whisper.

“Ok, stay right there.” Came his reply.

Then I hung up walking slowly over to a chair in the waiting room, none of the doctors or nurses could tell me what was wrong with Emily or if she was going to be ok, fresh tears slid down my cheek surely smudging my mascara and eyeliner, what did I even look like?

I used the back of my phone as a mirror so I could see that in fact my eyeliner was half way down my face and lipstick was mostly off, I wiped my eyes hopefully making me look a bit better.

Just then, Elliot came bursting through the hospital doors, his hair was a mess like he just woke up and he looked like he’d just chuck on a random pair of old faded jeans with a white T-shirt and black leather jacket, still he took my breath away just looking at him.  He scanned the room until he spotted me, worry clear in his eyes, he strolled over to me and in one swift movement moved me so sit on his lap wrapping his arms around me.

“What happened?” he asked quietly,

I just shook my head and leant into his warm chest taking in his calming scent while i let the tears fall and focussed on him patting soothing circles on my back and whispering re-assuring words into my ear that didn’t mean anything but meant everything at the same time.

I don’t know how long we sat there until a doctor called out my name, I looked over to see a man that looked about in his last 30’s standing in the doorway holding a clipboard, he called out my name again, this time I stood up and rushed over to him,

“Is Em ok? What happened to her?” I asked frantically.

He started walking down a hallway and motioned for us to follow him,

“Your friend has suffered some pretty bad injuries but I’m sure she will be fine, she has five broken ribs, a broken wrist along with a fair amount of cuts and bruises,”

I let out a sigh of relief, she would be ok!

We entered a room and I saw my best friend laying there so still, I walked over to her bed and looked over her, she looked pretty bad, her lip was busted, cheek was bruised black and blue and one of her eyes was puffy with a slight purple tinge, her wrist was in a large cast, she had a bandage wrapped around her torso, there were scrapes all up her delicate looking arms.  As I examined her I had the urge to brush her hair, it was laid messily around her in a thousand knots.

I felt Elliot come up behind me and wrap his arms around my waist, he wiped away tears I hadn’t known I was even shedding and whispered in my ear,

“She will be ok,”

Then he turned me around and frowned down at me, “What are you wearing? Or actually, what aren’t  you wearing?”

“I was at a club.” I mumbled, “This is what I wear.”

He just shook his head and wrapped his jacket around my shoulders; I smiled up at him and hugged him, resting my head in the crook of his neck.

I pulled away and noticed the doctor still standing in the room checking over all Emily’s tests,
