He awoke with a start, looking around the room he realized he wasn't home then remembered where he was. Thunder roared outside, as he looked round the room for Marinette.
Growing worried when he didn't find her he called out, "Marinette?"
No response.
Heaving himself up he moved toward the door to her room, calling her name, "Marinette this isn't funny!"
His ears twitched just as he lifted the latch, something like a soft sob caught his attention. Turning toward the source he moved toward the corner of Marinette's desk. Resting his hand on the desk he peered underneath, as the lightening struck he heard another soft sob. He looked at Marinette with concern, "Marinette?"
She jumped clearly startled, "Oh, it's just you, kitty."
"Marinette what's wrong?" He inquired crouching down on the ground, trying to not hack all over her.
"I...I don't like storms," she sighed in defeat, "they scare me..."
He felt bad for her, he felt this urge to cradle her in his arms and tell her that everything's gonna be alright.
"C'mere," he held out his hand, Marinette hesitantly took his hand looking him in the eye. He guided her to the space behind her couch, he pulled off the blanket she tucked over him and created a makeshift fort. She had a comforter wrapped around her, watching him as he worked to cut off the exits by placing blankets or pillows in the way.
"There," he said, smiling, "now all you have to do is not think about it...I used to go this when my parents...well never mind that."
Smiling a bit she eased up, "Thanks kitty."
He wiped the tears away from her cheeks, sitting across from her. Knowing he'd probably be stuck here for the night he silently thought to himself, Thank God dad and Nathalie aren't home, and good thing the servants are off.
Another streak of lightning cracked across the sky followed by a bellow of thunder Marinette made a squeaking noise and buried her face in her hands.
Without even thinking he pulled her into an embrace, resting his head on her back and his arms encircling her stomach.
She was taken aback by her sickly partner's behavior.
What's he doing? Why do I like this? I have a crush on Adrien though! This is so wrong...but I don't have the heart to tell him to bug off.
"Thanks kitty," she whispered. She jumped again as the storm howled. Though with Chat holding her it wasn't as bad. Eventually she stopped jumping and then she stopped getting scared all together.
She turned to smile at her partner, but her face fell when she saw how dull his brilliant green eyes were, "Oh Chat..." She reached out to touch him.
"Chat, lye down," she pushed him back placing her hand gently on his chest. He was lying down looking up at her and grasping her wrist as she moved to put a blanket around him.
"Marinette...stay with me...please..." Chat pleaded weakly.
Marinette, sympathetic for her partner and concerned snuggled up next to him, wrapping the blanket around the both of them.
She glanced at the pillows and blankets around her then focused her attention on Chat's drooping eyes.
"Go to sleep kitty, I'll be right here, I promise," she whispered.
Chat put his arms around her, like an embrace, not making her feel uncomfortable but reassuring. He was careful not to touch her in any way that would make her feel violated. She smiled at her friend as he encircled her in his embrace.
As he slept she played with his blonde hair strands, eventually dozing off herself.
"Marinette..." He sighed in his sleep, drinking in her warm, welcoming scent, which seemed to cheer him up, helping to ignore the pain in his chest and throat.
To be continued...
