Memories Birthdays and Saddness Chapter 4

**Flash back exactly nine years earlier***
(A/N you were 9 and Eren 8)
      "(F/n)! (f/n)!! Whatcha doin?" Eren asked me "I'm making a necklace for Anna. Its her birthday tomorrow remember you and your family were invited to come and celebrate with us. Stupid twig." You continued to look for pretty flowers that you would later cover in a clear wax to seal them for a while. "Stupid? I'm not stupid you are! And I'm not a-" he started to yell. So you coverd his mouth with your hand "Shut Up Eren the mean lady will scold me and tell my parents that I was rude if were loud!!" I whisperd-shouted into his ear. He could have nodded but I felt him smirk and before I could do anything his tounge went across my hand. "EEEEEWWWWWWW EREN WHY DID YOU LICK MY HAND THAT'S NASTY." so I slapped him across the face then punched him. Finnally I pushed him down. And started laughing until he pulled me down as well then we were both laughing. Finnally we settled down and he drifted off and I soon followed laying on his arm.
** Flash back ends***
       I giggled at the thought and Eren flashed his goofy smile. I couldn't stop my self I broke out laughing along with Eren. Of course Levi and Hanji thought we were crazy but I couldn't help it. Once we had calmed down Levi had helped me up and Hanji finnally finished checking over Eren. "Jeez, (F/n), Levi you could have gone a little easier together you knocked two teeth out. Let me see." she looks in Erens mouth and gasps. "What is it Hanji?" I question "They've grown back." she says in astonishment.
(A/N sorry if some of the quotes are wrong but the story line is kind of the same but I'm trying)

          I walk down the hallway to Hanji's door just see her emerging looking really exctied. "Hey Hanji whats up." I ask. Hanji looks at me and her eyes light up. "(F/n), (f/n) can you come and see and help me with Sawney and Bean now?" she asks like a child. I chuckle and reply with a yes and absoulutly. She squeals like a little kid who just got handed a puppy dog. She takes my hand before dragging me behind her. We made it to her pet titans and she hands me a clip board saying "It's been so long since you came to work with me, (F/n)." we walk around the titans and check for any thing wrong. One snaps at Hanji and she starts to tell the story like she always does. I always love listening to her storys it's really fun she tells stories like my mom used to mom was always telling the same story but changing the names every time and me and Anna would just laugh and giggle at the crazy names she came up with. Thinking of this I rememberd that today was Annas birthday she would have been 11 she would have joined the cadets in 1 year then probably went to the interior so she could make money and eventually move mom and dad to the interior thats just who she was. Thinking about Anna I felt tears running down my cheeks Hanji looked back after her story and saw me crying. As soon as I felt the tears I wiped them away with my hand but Hanji had already noticed and was by me in a split second. "(F/n) whats wrong?" She asks me. "I'm fine I just need some time by myself." after five years you think I would have it down. 'Your so stupid and weak (F/n)' I told myself and went inside. Trying to get to my room before anyone noticed me but I didn't work. First I see Eren and he stops me "(F/n) whats wrong?" Eren asks "I just need some time by my self." I tell him and walk away. But after getting stoped by many others I decide I just need my animals so I run outside as fast as possible to avoid getting stopped by any one else. I run straight to the stables. Once I arrive I take (h/n) and (d/n) out and climb on (h/n) and we take off (d/n) right behind us. We run to the forest and stop at the edge. I tie (h/n) to a tree and sit beside it (d/n) comes to me and sits on my lap (h/n) snorts into my hair and I just sit there remembering my family. Eventually I drift off one hand resting on (d/n) and the other holding onto (h/n)'s reins which I had taken off the tree.
"(F/n), can you go to the market and buy some bread?" Mom asked me "Sure but if the scouts come back can I go see them?" I asked thinking about becoming a scout oneday. "Yeah sure but take Anna with you." she answered  I ran back to my room. "Anna? Mom told us to go into town for bread amd if the scouts come back then we get to go see them." I said looking for her. "If you don't come out now I'm gonna leave you here and go on my own." I said taunting her. "Okay then. Bye." I turned around and started on my way but she crawled out from under my bed and grabbed my hand "Would you have really left me?" she asked.
         "Of course not what kind of big sister would I be if I left you." I told her squeezing her hand. "Okay." just then the bells rang to signal the scouts had come home. So me and Anna ran to see them I found an overturned crate and picked Anna up so she could see. Not many had come back this time and those that did looked traumatized and wounded. "Moses," and old woman went up to one of the soldiers "Have you seen my son Mose?" I knew where this was going I put Anna down and asked her if we could go and get bread now. I had always done my best to keep her from the saddness and horror of death. In the background I hear the old woman crying and shouting asking if her son made a difference. I hurried and lead Anna away and towards the market farther down the road. Taking the long way to avoid any soldiers.
         I passed a garrison regiment who were drunk off their asses and gambleing. Anna smiled as we walked by but I avoided eye contact. Once we were at the market I bought two loafs of bread like mom had said and started to hurry out. But Anna had seen the Scouts again "Sissy look." she pointed to the scouts and smiled at me. "Can we go see them one more time please?" she asked "Okay but not for long ok mom wants us home soon." we ran to the scouts and she kept shouting wait over and over again finnally they heard her. They stopped and turned around then I noticed she was carring a bunch of flowers she went up to each and every member and gave them a smile a hug and a flower. Most that were on horses got off and those who didn't I would lift her up so she could give them a hug and flower as well. Finnally we walked to the carts full of the dead and injured. Anna climbed on to the cart and gave the injured soldiers tow flowers and spread the rest over the dead. Once she was finnished many of the soldiers had  tears in their eyes Anna came and grabbed my hand and all of a sudden we heard a loud bang.
        We all turned and saw a lot of steam and a large skinless hand holding the wall then we saw the head emerge from behind it. As soon as I saw the head I picked up Anna and gave her to a non wounded soldier. "Take her, I have to find the rest of my family." the soldier looked skeptical but grabbed Anna. She reached out for me "Sissy I wanna stay with you." she told me. "I know but I will find you again some day okay? Promise." I answerd holding back tears. "But-" she started crying "I love you Anna I will see you soon. Goodbye." I said and started to run away but her word caught up with me "I love you more sissy and its not goodbye remember your promise." she shouted her voice thick from crying. I ran to Erens house and saw it was crushed things coverd in blood so I ran to my house. My house was crushed under a large peice of debris my parents under a large peice of roof. They were holding hands and it looked like they were trying to run. My mother looked at me her once lively and kind face contorted in pain and saddness. I knelt down next to her and cryed she hushed me with my favorite lullaby. She reached up to her hair that was now matted with blood and sweat and took out her hair pin that she had gotten from my fathers grandmother on her wedding day. She knew I had loved it and so she put it in my hand and shut my hand around it. Then whispered "I love you (F/n) and Anna to please live for us okay we will always love and watch over you." by then I finnally noticed that my parents mixed blood was surrounding me and almost covering my legs. "I love you to, mom." said back but already knowing she had died I clutched the hair pin and ran for my life to the boats once I had made it on one I saw that the gates were closing. 'Anna, you didn't make it did you' I thought 'Out of all the (L/n)s I an the only one left my parents and sister are dead and I am an abomination I couldn't even protect a six year old. But I will join the scouts and I will fight the titans and I WILL become one of humanitys best. But most importantly I will fight for my family.
        I wake up and look at the sky. I find the cluster of three stars that I dubbed as where my deceased family. I see them shining and start to wonder if their dissapointed in me for not saving them for not protecting Anna. I feel new tears fall over the stains from the pervious ones. And then realize that (1) I'm not holding onto (h/n)s reins (2) (d/n) isn't on my lap and (3) I can hear voices. "Where is she?" Eren asks "She should have been back hours ago." I hear Levi reply non helpfully. I stand but my legs have fallen asleep so I fall flat on my face "SON OF A-" "(F/n)!!!" I'm suddenly pulled to my feet and face two familiar faces and one not so familiar pair of arms holding my waist. "Where were you (F/n)? You have been gone for FIVE HOURS!!!!" Eren yells at me "Yeah we were worried." Hanji adds "Tch. Brats stop yelling. It's not going to get you anywhere." Levi says pulling me closer to him and I realize that this is the third time Levi has touched me in any way since I arived. The first was when he carried me back the second when he kissed me and the third right now. "I'm okay I just needed my time alone." I said peeling myself from Levi to go retrive anything I might have dropped. I reach the tree I fell asleep at and my long bamgs fall infront of my eyes. 'WAIT MY BANGS ARE ALWAYS PINNED BY MOMS HAIR PIN.' I fall to the ground and frantically run my hands over the ground searching for the silver and golden hairpin that had all the symbols for the military on it. Each second that I couldn't feel the hairpin in my hair or my hand my breath became more and more ragged and the more it felt like my chest cavity was being closed it to the space of a pea.

**LEVI'S POV***

        (F/n) kept running her hands over the ground and I could hear her breathing becoming ragged her hair was a total disaster and her bangs were in her face. 'WAIT BANGS'  her bangs are always clipped back with a large silver clip that had the symbols for all branches of the military on it. It must mean something to her.
