I didn't have to walk that long before I could smell burning wood.
As I drew closer to the smell, I saw Ben throwing fire at a tree. He looked angry but his eyes were filled with pain. I ducked behind a rock and watched him.
It looked like he had a lot of practise with his element. I wish I could be able to control my element like that but unfortunately I don't know how.
I watched him for what felt like hours when he eventually sat down on the ground.
All of the sudden he looked towards me and I quickly ducked down.
After a few seconds, I looked back to where I had last seen him but he wasn't there anymore.
I stood up and looked around but he was no where in sight.
Then I felt someone's hand on my shoulder and I yelped in surprise. I took their hand and flipped them over me so they were on the ground.
"Ow that hurt!" Ben said as he sat up.
"Oh my god. I am so sorry. I didn't mean to...its just that you scared me and-" I began to apologize but he cut me off.
"It's okay but why were you spying on me?" He asked.
"I-I wasn't s-spying I was j-just...uh w-watching from a distance so you didn't notice me." I stuttered with a fake convincing smile.
"Okkaayy..." He said slowly while we both started walking back.
We walked side by side in an uncomfortable silence.
"Can I ask you something?" I finally broke the silence.
"Uh..sure" he replied.
"Were you upset about what Kelli said because if you are I could talk to her. She always says things without thinking them through." I said.
He remained silent and just kept walking. Minutes passed and I was getting anxious.
"So are you?" I repeated myself.
He looked at me and said "don't worry about it, its fine."
"No it's not. I mean I have known her for years and she always does things like that."
"It's just... forget it."
"Come on you can tell me."
"It's none of your business so just leave me alone." He said coldly.
We walked in silence again. The temperature felt like it was dropping by every second. I shivered because I only had a T-shirt on right now.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Ben take off his jacket and hold it out for me.
"Um thanks but aren't you cold too?" I asked him.
"No I am actually hot right now," he answered.
I took the jacket from him and put it on.
"Wow! How can be you be hot?" I asked without thinking. As soon as I realized what I said had a double meaning, I looked down at the ground and didn't dare look into his eyes.
I could feel him staring at me.
"And you tell me that I like to stare." I said as I glanced at him and much to my surprise he was smirking.
I stared him with wide eyes without blinking.
"What?" He questioned.
"Nothing it's just that your smirking," I replied.
