I walked out as I saw my dad rushing into my arms.
"What happened?!" he yelled.
"I got the call, Aleese, tell me what happened!"
"She's gone, Dad. She's gone." I said, sobbing.
My mom's death hit my dad pretty hard. He began drinking alcohol to get his mind off of her, but it wasn't even close to helping. He turned to drugs. He shunned everyone out of his life for months, quitting his job, and refusing help for his addiction. I couldn't lose him either. He finally accepted my help and went to rehab. He got his job back, regretting everything he did. Ever since then, he's bottled up all of his feelings inside, and constantly said no to moving to a different place. It was the only thing that made him
feel safe with my mother's presence around him.
I had recently broken up with my boyfriend at the time and really needed to get away. I decided to dial Michael's number. Who would've thought that we were going to click so fast?
