Now that's all just a faint memory now. He's a totally different person. I feel like I come home every night to a stranger. He doesn't rub my belly anymore while we lay down, or talk to the baby he was so excited to meet. Now he comes in through the front door, already texting, leaves the dinner table because his "boss is calling" and goes out the door to text. Something's up, I know it. Later that day, my father called me to see if I was up for lunch with him at the diner. "Sure thing, dad. I'll pick you up in ten!" I said excitedly. I've been craving food from that place for weeks. We sat down at the table.
"Hi, my name is Jessica, I'll be serving you today." said the server.
"Hello, I'll take a coffee. Two and two. And I'll take the bagel delight, please."
"I'll take a hot chocolate, no whip cream, and a bagel delight also." I said.
While we waited for our food, we made small talk. "So, honey, how are you and Michael doing?"
"I'm so stressed. He's been so distant and weird lately. I don't know what to do anymore, dad. My conscience is telling me that he's seeing someone else."
"Well sweetie, if you really want some relief, I can investigate him myself. I have the day off today. What do you say?"
"I'm good for now, dad. I'll let you know, though." I say gratefully.
We spoke for a little while after until I was full and felt like my stomach would explode.
"Are you ready to leave, sweetie?" my father asked me. "Yes, I'm quite sated. Thank you for the meal." I said and kissed his cheek.
We left a five dollar bill pinned under a coffee mug as the waitress' tip. We then headed to the car. Again, I got stuck at the same red light on the way to my dad's apartment.
'Great." I thought to myself.
