Chapter Three

Sunlight creeps into my windows and wakes me from my slumber. I sit up and rub my eyes. Looking around, I realize I'm still in the livingroom. I must have fallen asleep on the couch last night after my date.

I glance over to the clock on the livingroom wall.

10:32.

"Shit!" I yell, "I'M GOING TO BE LATE FOR WORK!"

I race into the bathroom, quickly shower, and change into a pair of black shorts and a peach v-neck. Practically slipping on my black converse as I'm running out the door, I manage to snatch my purse off the table. Racing down the stairs, jumping down the last three, I burst out of the door to my building.

I can't be late to work and leave Caylen on her own during lunch hour! That's one of our busiest times and I know she'll need the extra help.

"At least I'll get my workout in too," I think to myself as I run, dodging people walking and store vendors outside on the sidewalk.

I make it there just in time, slipping in the door and giving Caylen my most apologetic face. She smiles and waves me on.

In the back, I tie on my apron and pull my hair back into a neat ponytail. Satisfied, I walk back out to the main room by 11:00. Just in time. I let out a deep breath, calming my racing heart, then move to take over at the register for Caylen.

"That was impressive. I'm not gonna lie," Caylen says to me as she moves to start filling orders.

I laugh for a moment, then stop myself. "Sorry. I fell asleep in-" I start but she cuts me off short.

"Listen, I know we're friends and all, but work is not the place where I want to hear about what happened last night. You can definitely tell me later if you want, but right now we have orders to fill."

I nod, fully understanding where she's coming from. I slide behind her and grab another pen because the one I was using ran out. As I pass behind her again, I say, "It wasn't like that you know."

She gives me a confused look, then returns to her normal lunch-hour-rush-work face. "Either way. You can tell me another time," she smiles, telling me over her shoulder.

Good. She's not mad at me. It's one thing to have your boss mad at you, but your boss who's also your friend is terrifying.

Lunch hour goes by without a hitch and things have slowed down in the cafe as the afternoon creeps on. I glance at the clock. A habit I've formed trying to keep a look out for when Liam comes in. I smile, pleased that I don't have to keep up with the time in order to see him anymore.

I go over to a table towards the back of the cafe and start to clean it. A strong pair of arms reach around me and squeeze me tightly. I smile and turn my head to see Liam's face sliping around my neck to place a sweet peck on my cheek. My smile grows and I giggle.

I try to hold back the laughter, but I can't. Liam, even in the twenty-four hours that I've actually known him, has made me hopeful that I can find love. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but when I look into his deep brown eyes, I feel safe.

"What're you up to later tonight?" he whispers in my ear, his words filling my ear and sending chills down my neck.

"Hmm, not sure. I met a guy down the street this morning and I might see if he wants to go out," I say, joking with him.

He pulls back and turns me around to face him. He gives me a skeptical look. "Well, maybe you and him can join me and my date tonight?" he says then winks at me.

"Sounds like a good plan to me. Where should we meet?"

He cocks a sexy grin, a playful look in his eye. He takes my hand, slipping a piece of paper into mine, and starts backing out of the cafe. Confused, I glance down to the folded slip and back to Liam. He winks and then leaves, slipping out the door and heading into the busy city.
