Two hours after Liam had left the coffee shop, my shift ends. Caylen is still working the front, making drinks, taking orders, calling out names for people who's drinks are ready. She glances over at me and smiles. Her eyes bright and happy as she mouths, "I love this!" I shake my head and fold up my green apron that we all wear as our uniform.
Caylen laughs to herself a little and tucks a short layer of her cropped red hair behind her ear and continues making drinks. I walk up to her and give her a hug before I leave the cafe. "Don't work too hard okay?" I tell her, knowing fully well that she's going to work until closing tonight at 11:00
She smiles and shakes her head. "You know, Mom, I could've swore I'd left you back in the states..." she states.
Playing along with her joke, I call as I start to leave the cafe, "Okay honey, get to bed at a decent hour, eat plenty of vegetables, don't let anybody in your apartment that you dont know." I glance around, acting like I forgot another thing to say.
"You forgot don't drink or do drugs," she adds, winking at me.
"Right!"
"Go have fun on your date, Sadie! I want to hear all about it tomorrow!"
I tilt my head and say, "Of course. I hope I've got a lot of good things to tell you!"
The door closes behind me and I turn, heading down the sidewalks of London. The skies are dimming as the sun is starting to dip in the late afternoon. People are walking along both sides of the busy street, everyone trying to get home or to their pub as quickly as possible.
The warm Summer air filling the concrete confinds of the city brings the people to life. Windows are open in the apartments above the street. Children can be heard in backyards playing and laughing. Dogs bark and people are vibrant and joyful.
I smile, full of utter happiness. Why? I'm not fully sure of. Could it be Liam that's already causing me so much happiness in my life? That seems a little extreme considering I just actually met him this afternoon.
But there was something about him...
Finally reaching my apartment building, located a half mile away from the cafe, I enter the building code and race up the stairs, eager to get inside and await a certain someone to call me. Reaching my apartment, number 14, I clumisly scramble with my keys, wondering why the hell I have so many of them. Finding the right key, I unlock my door and sit down my purse and keys on the table next to the door.
My apartment isn't anything lavish. It's simply what I can afford in the city combined with my attempt at making the place a home. Comfortable looking rugs adorn the hard wood floors. Blankets and pillows decorate the worn leather couch that I picked up for a steal at a second-hand store. I flip on the lights and the open floor plan comes to life. Looking through the wide open living room, you can see the small kitchen at the back of the apartment. Along the back wall are large sliding doors leading out to a small balcony, barely large enough to fit a chair and small side table for me to use in the mornings when I drink my coffee. Separating the living room and the kitchen to some degree is a low bookshelf that comes up about waist high filled with books and different trinkets I've found or brought from Texas.
Off to the right of the living room is a door leading to the apartment's one bedroom and the adjoining bathroom. I make my way into my bedroom and over to my closet. Searching through the hanging clothes to find something that I will hopefully have a reason to wear tonight.
Waiting for Liam to call is tearing my mind apart, so I have to keep myself busy. I change into a pair of sweats and a comfortable tshirt, then snuggle into my couch. I flip through the channels on the TV then settle on a channel I've grown to like. It is weird coming from America and being used to my normal shows, then having to get used to a new selection of shows here in England.
