Lucky I'm In Love With My Best Friend

18. Accident

It was the coldest day anyone had ever witnessed in Japan.

As soon as Tamaki stepped out the door, he felt it. The inside of his nose froze with every breath. He resorted to breathing through his mouth, but even then, clouds formed from his breath colliding with the air.

He shuffled to his car, wrapping his arms around him in attempt to keep him warmer as he took his short journey. Immediately after unlocking and getting in his car, he turned on the heat. He also turned on the radio, trying to distract himself from the temperature.

Tamaki was about to start driving when he got a text. He looked down at his phone, currently in the cup holder.

"Be careful driving. Roads are icy."

Tamaki smiled a bit at the concern coming from his (secret) boyfriend, but frowned once he looked back up at the road. Kyoya was right. The roads were very icy.

Tamaki began driving out of his driveway slowly. As he got more comfortable with the icy road, he went slightly faster; especially since he would be late to school if he didn't.

Being Tamaki, his concentration never lasted long, and he was soon jamming out to a song on the radio.

The car swerved right, then left again, then made a final turn off the road. It flipped over the guard rails. No other cars were affected. No other cars were around. No one.

Kyoya was worried. It was 4th period and Tamaki still wasn't at school. He hadn't been in homeroom, or any of his classes. Kyoya tried calling him in between classes, and even asked to go to the bathroom a few times. He left texts and voicemails.

The next period was lunch for Kyoya, so instead of eating-which he normally didn't do anyways-he walked outside and tried calling Tamaki's father. To his surprise, his father answered.

"Hello?" Yuzuru choked, his voice sounding weak and raspy.

"Mr. Suoh! What happened? Where is Tamaki?"

"He got into a car accident this morning. I–"

"What!? Why didn't you tell me!?"At that moment Kyoya didn't think about anything. He ran to his car and began driving to the nearest hospital.

"You are in school. I didn't want to interrupt your classes." Yuzuru explained.

"That's bullshit. Whether I'm dating him or not, I still love him. He's my best friend. School is not nearly as important as he is to me." His phone synced with his car and allowed him to talk through the speakers without having to hold the phone. He made sure to focus on his driving, not wanting there to be two accidents in one day.

"Still, I would've interrupted the class and–"

"Everyone at that school loves Tamaki. I don't think they would mind you interrupting one class because he got hurt!" Kyoya spit.

"Well it is–"

"I don't care about your excuses. I'm on my way to the hospital."

"You should be in school–"

Kyoya hung up the call. He then let out a long sigh as he made it to the hospital. He parked, then grabbed his phone and ran out of the car. He sprinted into the building. "Where's Tamaki Suoh!?" Kyoya yelled. A nurse quickly shuffled over to him, and led him downstairs to the family waiting room.
