Friends? - Part two - (Bones/Reader)

"Friends." Leonard huffed under his breath as he ran a hand through your hair.
It was early in the morning and you hadn't quite woken up yet. Poor Leonard hadn't had much sleep...
It helped having you there with him; just feeling the warmth of someone he adored and trusted next to him made him feel less alone.

"What are you grumbling at?" You managed to mumble through your sleepy state, your eyes not yet open.

"Nothing." He breathed a laugh and grinned, "Good morning Y/N..."

"Morning Len." you opened your eyes and began to gently stretch your muscles, accompanying this action with a rousing yawn. "How are you feeling?"

"Uh." he stuttered "I-Im okay..."

"Oh Leonard." you looked up at him, his face set in a solemn and tired expression. "I don't know what else to say... I'm sure she'll be fine Leo, you just gotta stay positive."

Leonard gave no answer.

"I know it's easier said than done Leo, but you making yourself miserable isn't going to help either of you." you continued "She needs you to be strong Len, she can't have her daddy losing his head, imagine how scared she is..."

Leonard's eyebrows furrowed and he let out a heavy breath "You're right. I'm being selfish."

"No, Leonard that's not what I meant." you placed a hand on his left cheek, tracing the curve of his jaw "It's natural for you to feel helpless in this situation, and its natural for you to worry and think the worst, but little Joanna has no idea what's going to happen to her, and she needs her big, strong papa to reassure her everything's going to be okay."

Leonard nodded, a tear rolling down his cheek. His hand traced up your arm, and to the Palm of the hand you had rested on his cheek. He squeezed it and nuzzled his forehead closer to yours.
He had such a broken expression, and the sheer pressure he had squashing your hand in desperate need of some comfort tore your heart in two.
"I think it's time you took some shore leave..." you suggested.
