CHAPTER SIX
The Engagement
June 4, 2010. Friday. Aimee was so tired from her activities the previous day. She woke up late again. It was already past eight in the morning when she stirred. After a few minutes, Guada and a maid came in with her breakfast.
After the greetings, she asked Guada, “Did Fatima arrive already?”
Guada said, “She won’t come today, ma’am. Sir told us not to let you work today. So, Miss Dizon was notified to just organize all the things you were asking for from the different headquarters. She would be back by Monday.”
She asked Guada further, “How did I get here in my bed last night? The last thing I remember was dinner.”
Guada answered, “Sir carried you, ma’am. You fell asleep over dinner.”
She inquired, “Who changed me into my nightie?”
“I changed you into your nightie, ma’am.”
She asked about the engagement party for that coming night, “How many guests are expected to arrive tonight, Guada?
Guada replied, “More or less fifty, ma’am.”
She stretched out her arms, “I still feel very tired, Guada.”
Guada informed her, “A massage therapist will come over later, ma’am.”
She asked. “What time?”
Guada replied, “Three in the afternoon, ma’am. You still have enough time to visit your brother. But as for your late afternoon visit, you might not be able to do it anymore because we need to prepare you for the party.”
She acknowledged it, “I understand, Guada.”
“Tomorrow evening you have to fly to Isla Esperanza with sir, ma’am. You don’t need to worry about packing. Juan and I would be packing for you and sir,” Guada informed her.
“Yes, I remember Ramil telling me about the wedding of a friend over dinner,” she recalled. “What’s the name of his friend again?”
“Don Vicente Dominguez, ma’am,” Guada told her the name.
She asked, “And the name of the bride?”
Guada said, “Sandra Caparas, ma’am.”
She said, “Her name sounds familiar.”
Guada informed her, “She’s an international ramp model, ma’am.”
“Yeah, I remember,” she recalled. “I’ll go to the hospital after breakfast. Then I’ll just be back by lunch time.”
“Okay, ma’am. I’ll notify Jose.”
Guada readied her clothes, bags and shoes then went out.
When she went out of her room, a group of more or less ten people were busy setting up the terrace and the garden as well as the lounge area and infinity pool for the engagement party.
Jose escorted her down. They went to the hospital. Aimee spent the rest of her morning with her brother. She read him a book. She also told him about the engagement party as well as her trip to Isla Esperanza.
Ivan didn’t say much but he listened attentively and smiled every now and then. She could sense that her brother was in slight pain whenever he tried to speak out. So she didn’t ask him anymore to talk.
