CHAPTER ELEVEN

The Scam’s Aftermath

It was already around five o’clock in the afternoon when she woke up.

She went to her workspace in the library/study room. She saw the neatly arranged bounded documents. Fatima left a note.

Ma’am,

The green ones are for charity funds, the yellow ones are for the hotels and the blue one is for the mansion.

Afterwards, she went to the kitchen. She saw everyone busy preparing food for dinner.

Guada asked, “Do you want anything, ma’am?”

She answered, “Just a glass of water, Guada.”

A kitchen maid gave her a glass of water.

She uttered, “Thanks.”

Guada asked her, “Do you want me to prepare your bath ma’am?”

She replied, “I’ll probably just take a quick shower after dinner, Guada. Anyway, I have a ten AM appointment at Palmaine Doctors’ Hospital. Kindly inform Jose about it.”

Guada said, “Yes, ma’am.”

She left the kitchen after drinking water. She proceeded to the living room. The doorbell rang. Juan opened it. Ramil came with George and three other men.

She approached Ramil for a welcome kiss and a welcome hug. He hugged her back tightly and kissed her back sweetly.

He introduced her to the other three men. “Men, meet my lovely and intelligent wife, Aimee. Aimee, they are the members of the fact-finding team, Rex De Rama, Arman Torres and Karl Serrano.”

Handshakes and pleasantries had been exchanged.

George told the three men, “It was Mrs. Arevalo who found the discrepancies, men. Aimee, we want you to join as we deliberate our findings.”

They all went inside the library/study room. They all sat by the conference table. Ramil led her to sit closely beside him.

Maids came in to serve coffee and tarts, cookies and cakes.

The three accountants reported their findings as well as the paper trail of the missing money. George also shared the results of his interviews with all the junior executives involved. The scam’s mastermind was the Vice President for Administrative Affairs of Arevalo Banking Corporation. Ramil decided to have it resolved through legal matters.

George and the rest of the fact-finding team left quarter to eight in the evening. The four men all had dinner plans so they didn’t stay for dinner. They sent them off to the main door of the penthouse.

Aimee voiced out her opinion regarding his decision when they were already alone.

She said, “Maybe you should talk first to your VP. Have him explained his side.”

“Honey, were talking here about millions. He embezzled millions from the corporation. I’m not deciding just on my behalf but also in behalf of all the shareholders and employees. This corporation was on a brink of bankruptcy when I rehabilitated it three years ago,” he was calm as he pointed out his reason.

“He has a wife and four children all depending on him,” she said.

“Other shareholders and employees have wives and children too, honey. We must protect them,” he answered.
