CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Bundles of Joy

November 6, 2010. Saturday. Aimee was scheduled for another pregnancy ultrasound that would determine the sex of their twins.

Ramil had been cancelling all his appointments whenever she got prenatal check up. She had suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum during the first trimester of her pregnancy, she had frequented the hospital. She even had to stay for a few days in the hospital for IV fluids. But with proper diet, it already stopped. She wasn’t having morning sickness anymore. She just had unusual cravings for food.

The ultrasound showed that they had a boy and a girl.

Vic was already living with them. He was still in medication after the complete rounds of radiation therapy. He was in remission and they hoped it will continue.

Ramil and Aimee were so happy on their way back to the penthouse until they saw Sandra in the living room with Vic. They were arguing.

Ramil was angry. “What’s happening here?”

Sandra said, “I want my husband back?”

Vic spoke, “I was never your husband, Sandra.”

Aimee said, “You’ve heard him, Sandra. You may now go.”

Sandra diverted her anger towards Aimee, “I’m not going anywhere. And so I heard you’re carrying a baby. Are you sure it is yours, Ramil?”

Ramil became even more furious, “You have no right to badmouth my wife here in my house.” But he had to stay calm for Aimee who was already calming him down. “Isidro, Jose, escort Miss Caparas out.”

“I’ll sue Vic for fraud if he won’t go back to me,” Sandra said.

Isidro and Jose were already holding Sandra by her arms.

Vic said, “Go on, Sandra. I’ll die anyway eventually. I know you just want me back because you don’t have money anymore. But sad to say, I don’t have any more money either. I’m just living here under Ramil’s charity.”

Sandra had no idea that Ramil was Vic’s biological son. She didn’t need to know.

“Escort her out and tell the concierge desk not to allow her in,” Ramil ordered.

As soon as Sandra was out, Aimee knelt down in front of Vic. She had noticed that he had stooped down. “Dad, are you alright?”

Vic was seated on an automated wheelchair. Vic raised his head and said, “I’m fine, Aimee. I just feel a little tired. That’s all. How was the checkup?”

Aimee said, “We are having one boy and one girl, Dad.”

Vic replied, “That’s good news. You can now start preparing the nursery. Ramil is always bringing home toys for the twins even if we still don’t know their sexes.”

“That’s a nice idea.” Aimee stood up, “I’ll go to the kitchen, our babies seem very hungry.” She left. She felt that the two men should talk.

Ramil and his father talked when Aimee went to the kitchen.

“I’m not worried about being sued, Ramil. I’m more worried for you and Aimee. Sandra was insinuating that I’m having an affair with your wife because Aimee had accompanied me with all those hospital visits. Sandra still doesn’t know our blood relation. Sandra might do something awful involving Aimee,” Vic told his son.
