CHAPTER ONE

The Young Lad

Ramil Arevalo was a whore’s son…a bastard. He never knew his father. His mother had no idea who his father was. He never felt loved by his mother. She had just considered him as a burden. He was just seven years old when his mother died from AIDS. Having no relatives, the social work services of Palmaine City had brought him in an orphanage. He was never adopted because he was already a young boy. He hadn’t had a happy childhood. He was a loner. But that didn’t keep him from dreaming. He always remembered the words of the director of the orphanage – dreaming is free for all whether you’re rich or poor…all you have to do is to keep on believing and persevering. At the age of eighteen, he was emancipated from the orphanage. He had entered any possible decent job he could have just to support his dream of finishing college. He had become a waiter, a bartender, a messenger, a room boy, a delivery boy, a janitor, a valet in parking service, and many more. At the age of twenty-one, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accountancy with honors at UF – Vienburg. He worked even harder for the licensure examination and soon he became a Certified Public Accountant. He landed a job in one of the most prestigious accounting firm in the country located in Palmaine City, Missi. He never stopped on dreaming. He worked during the day and studied law during the evening. As soon as he became a lawyer, he set up his own law office and became a very good defense lawyer. He had represented many famous personalities - movie actresses, TV hosts, broadcast journalists and politicians. He also handled some of the most celebrated cases in Missi.

His legal services had not only been known in the world of showbiz and politics but as well as in the corporate world.

He had also dated a lot of women from the upper class society - plastic surgeon, prima ballerina, newscaster, movie actress, ramp model, beauty queen, professional singer, TV personality, broadcast journalist and lots of socialites. But he never thought of marriage. He made himself busy climbing up to the top until he became a self-made multi-billionaire. He was already the CEO-President of Arevalo Group of Companies.  He controlled the majority shares of Arevalo Banking Corporation, Arevalo Holdings Corporation and Arevalo Lands and Development Corporation. These three corporations were on the verge of bankruptcy when he bought majority of its shares to rehabilitate them and then he changed the name of the corporations with his name. He also owned and oversaw the Arevalo and Associates Law Firm and Arevalo and Associates Accounting Firm. He established these two firms. These businesses all had their headquarters in Palmaine City, Missi.

In his climb way up to the top, he only got to meet a few true and loyal friends.

Most of those people he had worked with were deceivers and hypocrites. But he perfectly knew how to distinguish those who were true from those who were not true to him.

Ramil Arevalo was a man of power and toughness. He lived in the penthouse of one of the tallest condominium towers in Missi, the Arevalo Towers, developed by his own corporation.

April 4, 2010. Easter Sunday. Ramil met a young caddie when he was playing golf in Palmaine Golf and Leisure Club. It was a first time that the young man worked for him as a caddie.

While playing he got to ask the young man some questions.

He inquired, “What’s your name, young man?”

The lad said, “Ivan, sir.”

He asked for his whole name, “Ivan?”

The lad replied, “Ivan Castro, sir.”

He asked further, “How old are you?”

Ivan answered, “Twenty, sir.”

He inquired, “Are you studying?”
