Chapter 21- I'm Nervous Out Of My Socks
Emma's Point Of View
“Going to see your boyfriend?” Michael wonders on Friday night as I leave for the café.
I roll my eyes at him with a soft glare. I’ve been dating Jace for exactly a week (Like, boyfriend and girlfriend for a whole seven days) and he still hasn’t gotten tired of teasing the crap out of me about having a boyfriend. Of course, the whole catching me and Jace making out thing has kind of fueled it. And, of course, when I called him after school that same day to tell him that I was going home with Jace so that he could help me study, Michael didn’t believe me about the studying part, though, and just reminded me- once again- to come home a virgin. Which, I am proud to say that I did. I mean, sure we did other things than study that night, but it didn’t get any more intense than making out.
“I go to the café every Friday, Mikey.” I remind my stupid brother. “I’m not going just for Jace, you’re just an idiot.”
“Okay, whatever you say.” He sings, handing Carter his dinner at the kitchen table which was macaroni and green beans. “Break a leg, kiddo.”
“Thanks,” I sigh, throwing my guitar over my shoulder and hurrying out the front door to escape any future teasing from my brother. Sometimes, when Caroline is around, she’ll protect me from him, but other times she’ll just laugh with him and they’ll all laugh at me while I blush and it’s just not funny at all. However, she was still at work when I left the house, I guess she had to work overtime tonight so she wasn’t there to protect me.
The ride to the café is peaceful and when I arrive, I see that Jace is already here because I see his car parked in the parking lot near where I decide to park. At school today, he suggested that we ride together to The Seaside Café, but I declined the offer because it would take me a while to get dressed and I had to grab my guitar and stuff, so we are obviously just meeting here.
When I go inside, I immediately see Jace standing behind the bar. Not that I was that eager to see him, of course, I just happened to look in his direction the second that I stepped into the café. Coincidentally.
Jace looks up when he hears the bell ring above the door and grins when our eyes connect. Of course, I grin back and make my way over to where he’s sitting at the cash register, playing on his phone or texting somebody or something. His eyes darken somewhat as they follow me as I’m walking and I blush a little bit.
“Hey,” I chirp softly.
“Hey there,” He comments. “You changed your clothes.”
I nodded and looked down at my outfit. I was wearing a light blue corset-like crop top and pastel floral denim shorts. There was about an inch gap between the shorts and the corset, exposing that much skin, but I was also hiding with a long flowey crème colored cardigan. Not the one that I wore earlier, this one was open in the front and flowed down passed my butt and stops about halfway past the shorts. My shoes were fancy mint green sneakers that match the color in the shorts and there are dull spikes covering the shoes. “Yeah, is it bad?”
He shakes his head. “No, I like it. You look…” He trails off.
I raise my eyebrows at my silly boyfriend. “I look what?”
Again, he shakes his head. “Nope, you’ll hit me if I finish that sentence.”
I gape at him, self-consciously. “I look that stupid? I like these shorts though.”
“No,” Jace laughs. “I was going to say hot. You look hot, Emma.”
I scowl at him and softly punch his shoulder over the glass between us as I blush.
