Silver Strider( A Pirates Story)

Chapter: 4

When the sun rose the next morning, everyone was up and preparing things for my moms departure.

I had woke up Usoui earlier last night to tell him about the talk with my mom. He was basically asleep when I found him. Drool rolling out of his mouth onto the hammock. It was halarious but I couldn't wait to tell him.

The first thing he noticed when I woke him was the hat.

He asked what I was doing with the captains hat, and I explained everything. With each expression, his eyes slowly widened even more. Like they where going to pop right out.

Will has been helping me out this morning with getting things prepared for the departure. The sails where taken down and rigged back to the masts when we pulled in ashore.

I had to continuously fix the feather on the captains hat, because it just liked to keep dropping in my face.

" are you sure you have everything you need? Extra cloths? Food?" I asked my mom.

She smiles" I'll be fine. I've got everything I need. Don't worry about me. What you need to be worrying about, is the ship while I'm gone." She set down her bags and placed her hands on my shoulders." Are you alright with me leaving you here?"

" I'll be fine mom. I assure you, everything will be tip top shape when you return."

" I love you."

" I love you too."

She leans over and kisses my cheek. And waved goodbye to the rest of the crew. I watched as she disappeared behind the trees, following the dirt path deeper into the forest.

At that moment my mind went blank. I wasn't sure what we would do. Usually my mom had the ideas and we followed her lead. But now I was in charge,and she was gone. I had no clue of what we would do next.

" Captain. What are your orders."

I stared blankly at the empty dirt road.

" Captain!"

" oh! Sorry. It's like for the moment I forgot I was captain." I rub the back of my neck." Umm lets lift the plank board off the shore and get the anchor out of the water, I want to get this ship up and sailing towards the stocking port. Where running low on supplies, and the last thing I want is having a crew member fall sick or go hungry."

With a quick nod from Will, every person on the ship got to work. Usoui stayed by my side and helped steer the ship away from land, and I barked orders to the crew.

To be honest, it was fun! You know. Like being in charge and telling people what to do. But at the Same time, it made me feel weird, having to be the one yelling at people. I wasn't much of one to be barking orders. But now that my mom was gone, it just seemed to come freely.

" All ready captain!"

Captain....how weird it felt to be called that." Alright. Set sail for the eastern stocking port!"

Usoui gives me a wink of the eye before taking hold of the wheel." Aye, Aye captain!"

The ship jerked slightly, but we where on our way.

I watched from the captains courters, as the rocky shores disappeared. Dazing off at the dark blue water. I was startled back to reality when I heard a hard double knock on the golden rimmed door.

" Come in!" My voiced wavered a bit. It was gonna take some getting used to before I started taking the role of the captain to heart. It still didn't feel real.

The door creaked open and I turned to sit down at the charters desk.

" Hey Silver. How are you holding up in here?"

" I'm doing fine. It's still hard to believe that I'm captain."

Usoui smiled." Why don't you come out and join us on deck? Its nice and sunny out, and the winds blowing a nice breeze as well. We could sit on the edge of the ship."

I smile back at him and rub my forehead." It's not that I don't want to, but I still need to get myself organized with all this stuff here. Will said he'd come in after lunch and show me a few things."

" aw come on. I mean, didn't you learn about most of this stuff from your mom? This should be simple." He sighs and plops himself down on one of the red leather chairs. His leg propped up on the desk.

I grit my teeth. " First of all, get your feet down off the desk. I don't want you dirtying it up." I push his feet off onto the floor." Second, Its been a while since I've learned about this stuff, so it makes sense that I could have forgotten a few things.

Usoui gives me a slightly angry/ bored look and sits up in the chair." Since when did you become so grown-up?"

" Since I got put in charge of multiple lives and a ship." I sit back in my big chair." Look, I would really love to come out and goof around, but I don't have the time. I'm sorry. We can always do it later, alright?"

Usoui sighs and stands back up." Whatever. You do your thing. See yah."

With that, he walked out closed the door behind him.

It upset me that I couldn't spend time with him. But I had too much work to do.

Maybe tomorrow wouldn't be as busy. I really wouldn't want to disappoint him any more than he already was.
