Chapter 6

Elizabeth

I get up the next day more prepared for what's to come at school. I get ready for school then make some breakfast for everybody afterwords. I grab a couple crackers and head out of the orphanage. I smile whilst walking to school. The sun is out, there is a slight breeze, and I feel on top of the world. I don't know why I didn't like going to school. At the moment, I couldn't find a single thing wrong with it. That is until I actually got there. When I started to approach Altus High School, I started to remember everything I hated about the school and lowered my head to make sure no one noticed me.

I quickly headed to my locker and put all of the things I don't need into it. I then looked both ways before speed walking to my first class. I made sure not to bump into anybody and to avoid as many people as I possibly could. I made it to my English class with a sigh of relief until I realised that Nick is in this class too. I look down at my desk and ignore everyone walking into the classroom. I hear the chair next to me scrape on the floor and I know that Nick just sat down. Before he is able to say anything the bell rings and the lesson starts up.

I take notes and make sure not to look at or acknowledge Nick. He doesn't seem to bother me until about half the class period is over. He kept tapping my shoulder trying to get my attention. I ignored him completely and acted like he wasn't even there. It seemed to work until he stabbed me with his pen. I jumped a bit in my seat, but luckily no one saw me other than Nick. I turn to him and glare.

"Hey." I just look at him with a blank expression on my face, but he just continues to talk.

"So, I heard you dumped my cousin for me." At this I glare at him and turn away.

"C'mon, have a sense of humour. It's not that serious." I just grit my teeth and clench my fists. If I had my voice I have no doubt that I would tell him off.

"So, you're still not gonna talk are you?"

"Okay fine. Have it your way." He says and faces the front of the classroom again. Finally.

Class couldn't of been over soon enough. I could not stand the looks I kept getting from Nick. He made me feel as though I did something wrong in the first place! In the halls I kept getting nasty looks and snide remarks from people because of what Nick told them. I can't stand that guy! Why does he have to be such a jerk? I never did anything to him. All I did was not reply when he asked me out. Is that a crime? I get to my next class wanting the day to end already.

I walk to my last class of the day with a sigh of relief. The day is almost over. I look to my schedule to see what room my Maths class is in since I've never actually been to it before. Once I get to the room, I hand the teacher my note and she frowns at it before pointing to where I had to sit. I went to the back of the classroom and sat down whilst students started walking in. I looked down at my desk, suddenly finding it very interesting, to avoid eye contact with other people. When someone sat next to me, I didn't look up. Afraid of who it might be.

"Elizabeth?" A familiar voice asked and I looked up to see Niall smiling at me. I grinned at him and waved, suddenly happy to have someone who doesn't hate me sit next to me. The bell rang and I looked to the front of the room. I always found Maths to be pretty easy and decided not to take notes on what she's saying because I already learned it at my previous school.

"Okay, I want you guys to partner up with someone and do this worksheet I put on your desk." The teacher announced.

Everybody got out of their seats and sat next to who they wanted to work with. I looked around, knowing no one wanted to work with me, and watched everyone else pair up with who they wanted to work with. I sat there awkwardly until someone tapped my shoulder. I looked up to see Niall holding up the worksheet and smiling at me. I smiled back and scooted my chair over so we could work on his desk.

I was able to finish the worksheet in a few minutes and looked up to see Niall still working on the third problem. He looked at me and then my paper and then back at me.

"How were you able to finish that fast?" He asked and I just shrugged.

"Could you help me?" He asked shyly and I smiled and nodded my head.

I showed him how to do the problem he was on and he tried to do the next one, but did it incorrectly. I showed him again, but this time I broke it down on the paper a bit more than I did previously. He tried again and still did it wrong.

"Ugh, I'm no good at Maths." I shook my head and gave him an encouraging smile. I showed him how to solve the problem and after a few more tries he finally got it.

"Yes!" He fist pumped the air and the surrounding groups looked at him, which caused him to turn bright red in embarrassment and he mumbled his apologies. I grinned at him and helped him out with a few more problems until he got the hang of it and finished the rest of the paper.

When he was done he suddenly grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. I froze for a moment before putting my arms around him and hugging him back. I felt butterflies in my stomach and warm tingles rushing through my body as he hugged me. It felt weirdly comforting to have his arms around me. I'm not sure if I should be scared or happy at this feeling, but I just push my thoughts aside and just focus on hugging him. Once he pulls away he blushes a bit.

"Sorry, I was just really happy I was able to get the hang of it." I smiled letting him know that it was okay.

The bell rang and we turned our papers in and I headed to my locker. I quickly got my stuff out and headed towards the exit of the building. Before I'm able to leave someone grabs my arm and pulls me into the closet. I automatically started to panic and was about to scream when I realised that I can't. I squinted my eyes to try and see who else was in the closet.

"I've been waiting a long time for this." They said before putting their lips on mine.
