"So how'd tryouts go?" Mason asked me, as I closed my locker. "It went really good- except for the fact that that a bunch of freshmen showed up trying to tryout, but other than that, really good." I explained, and he nodded.
"Sounds good, but shouldn't they know they can't try out for JV or Varsity?" He asked, and I rolled my eyes. "They should. They don't."
"Of course." He replied, and he grabbed my government book to carry it, as we headed to class.
The bell rang as soon as we sat down, and we placed our stuff under the table. Thankfully, we had a sub today, so we didn't have to do anything except for this survey on Miss. D, which was really easy, so for the rest of class we just talked, Mason and I.
"So, I hear your birthday's coming up." Mason said, and I grinned. "How'd you know?" I asked, and he shrugged. "Oh it's just that Ava came up to me and gave me the third degree. She said your birthday was in like four weeks, and that if I hurt you I would suffer even more than I already do- that's all." He concluded, and I laughed but then stopped.
"More than you already do?" I asked, and he shook me off, "Doesn't matter." I nodded.
"Oh Ava... But yeah, it's actually the 30th of September, but I hate it. I hate that it's by the 'scary month' or whatever, and I hate that I have a late birthday. Like everyone is already 17, and I'm a stupid straggler." I ranted, and Mason just sighed.
"So what do you want?" He asked, and I gaped with my eyebrows raised.
"Excuse me?" I asked, and he shrugged. "What do you want?"
"You don't need to get me anything. I mean, I have everything I want- besides a good dad, but I mean, that doesn't count." I pointed a finger at him. He surrendered, putting his hands up, and the topic changed.
"Do you want to come over tonight?" I asked, and he nodded. "Sure. I have to drop off some flowers, but other than that, I'm free. What time?"
"Whenever, oh wait, come at six, I need to drop off Jessie tonight, and then I'll be back." I told him, and he nodded.

I walked into the caf, and headed to my table, to see a furious Chase sitting at the table. Ryan was patting his shoulder, and I sat down. "What happened Chase?" I asked, rubbing his back.
"Coach suspended him from the team the next two weeks." Zack explained, and I frowned. "Why?" I turned my stern glare to Chase.
"I got in a fight with some kid from Eastmore." He told me, and I wacked his head. "You know how I feel about that."
"Whatever." He grumbled, and I smacked him again. "What will Miley and Jess think?"
"What they don't know won't hurt." He said, and as I went to smack him again, he grabbed my wrist and said, "No more smacking."
I kissed him on the cheek, and he smiled. "But really, since I have tonight off, want to go out to dinner?"
"Sure- oh wait. I can't." I remembered I'm hanging out with Mason tonight. "Why?" He asked. "Mason is coming over." I told him quickly.
"What?" He asked sharply.
"We're just going to hang out, and study. No biggie." I told him. "Yeah study how reproduction works, using each other as models." Ryan said snootily.
I gasped and looked to the girls, who all had wide eyes, as the boys whooped, and 'oohed.' "You stupid brat. This is why we broke up! You're so stupid! Butt out of other people's lives, and stop being so rude!" Madi yelled at Ryan, who stood up and replied, "Oh I'm the fucking rude one? Really Madison? Who's the one that ditched their own family to go to six flags with some 20 year old she met at a party? Huh? Who was it Madison? It certainly was not me!" He shouted.
All eyes were on us, and I turned pale. They kept yelling profanities to each other, as the fight escalated. I knew Ryan was mad, because he was calling her 'Madison', and he only does that when he's upset.
I covered my ears, and grabbed Ryan, I don't know why I didn't go for Madi, but I didn't so, here I was.
I yanked him by the arm, and pulled him outside. I had to apply a lot of force, as he was pulling away from me to yell at Madi over my turned body.
"You can't pull this crap Ryan!" I shouted at him. "Are you kidding me? Did you see her? She started the damn fight Syrena!" He shouted back.
"I don't care who started it! You should've been the bigger person and left! But-" I continued yelling. "Shut up dammit! Just shut up!" He screamed at me, and I slapped him across the face. He stared at me, shocked. I stared back, gaping at the handprint I'd left.
"I'm sorry Ryan." I told him, he flicked a hand at me, and stormed off. "Fuck off Syrena." He walked towards his car, and sat in the seat. He punched the steering wheel multiple times, and yelled inaudible profanities.
I sat down on the curb, and placed my head in my knees, my eyes stinging, and my mind wild with angry thoughts. "Wow." I heard a voice from behind me. I turned around to see Zoey, stamping out a cigarette. She wasn't addicted or anything, she just smokes when she's under stress. Probably from cheer.
"What happened to him?" She asked, and I shook my head. "Madison and him are being idiots, and think they hate each other. I interfered, and who knows what we do now." I told her. She came and sat by me on the concrete.
"Pretty intense." She nodded, and she smelled of smoke.
"Way intense." I agreed, and we sat there, staring at Ryan as he drove off, and as Ava ran out of the building holding her mouth. She ran to a trashcan and emptied the contents of her stomach. Zack ran out after her, and pulled her hair back into the best ponytail he could manage.
I stood up, and offered her a hand to get up. She shook her head, "Nah, I'll stay here, you go help Ava. I can be here when Ryan gets back." She said, even though we both knew he wasn't coming back. She knew I hated the smell of those cylinder murderers, so I just left her to smoke.
"Get it all out... it's okay baby." Zack coaxed Ava through her puking. She gagged once more, and came out of the trashcan. "It's the chicken." He told me, stroking her back as she wiped her mouth. I guess it's one of those pregnancy things where she gets sick just eating it.
"Oh." I replied, and we helped walk Ava inside.
"Where's Ryan?" Zack asked over Ava's shoulder. "He left." I told him, and he sighed. "Madi?" I asked. "She's in the office calling her sister to come get her. The car's in the shop again." He explained and I nodded. What was going wrong? We had done everythingright. At least I thought.

I heard the doorbell ring at 6:03. I walked to the door and opened it, but not before tugging at the hem of my shirt.
I decided to wear some light wash capris, with rips in them, and a cropped black and white, striped sweater, with maroon vans.
I looked up to greet Mason, only to see in wasn't Mason. It was Chase.
"I just dropped Jessie off at Miley's house, so you can go home." I told him, but he walked inside anyways.
"Where is he?" He asked.
"Wh-who?"
"The kid that left flowers on your porch!" He shouted, and that's when I noticed that Chase held a bouquet of orange daisies in his hand. I stared at them in confusion, and saw the note dangling from the side of the bouquet.
Note 2: I hope you liked the roses, and love these too. I think you're cute when you're confused.
