"freezing." the brunette girl eventually replies, quickly wiping away the tears that rest upon her cheeks.
tyler feels sorry for her and even though he doesn't really want to, he takes off his hoodie for her.
"here." the boy says, passing his hoodie to the stranger.
"you don't have to." the girl insists.
"it's fine." tyler reassures her.
the girl reluctantly takes the hoodie from him and pulls it on, thankful for the warmth that it almost instantly engulfs her into.
"thank you.. um-"
"-tyler." the now slightly shivering boy responds.
"right, thank you tyler." she corrects herself. "i'm cassie."
"hey cassie." tyler says with a comforting smile, sitting down on the bench next to her. "what are you doing out here so late?"
"i could ask you the same thing." cassie says quietly, "i guess i just needed to clear my head."
"me too." he responds. "do you want me to walk you home?"
"uh, that would be good, thank you." she says.
and so they both stand up from the bench and begin the short walk to the girl's apartment building.
they're both silent on the way there, although luckily it's not an awkward silence, it's pretty comfortable.
cassie stops in the lobby of the tall building which she lives in and takes off the hoodie she had borrowed from her new friend.
"thank you again." she says passing him the big hoodie.
"no problem." he responds, smiling. "see you around?"
"yeah." she says stepping away. "g'night, tyler."
he watches her walk into the elevator and just before the silver doors close they both give each other a small wave.
