"Sometimes you have to break your own heart to protect the one you love." -Mattie Newman

I was so comfortable and at ease, I didn't want to sleep yet but I was so tired. His warm skin against mine, his arms around me, and his fingers entangled into my hair gave me a feeling that was indescribable. Laying on his chest listening to his heart beat was soothing, when it was calm that is.

"Calm down Arinhead, go to sleep."

I kissed his cheek and rested my head on his chest again. I focused only on his heart beat and fell asleep quickly, completely safe in his arms. They were wrapped around me so tightly it would probably start to hurt soon enough.

The next morning I woke up from someone softly snoring, I tried to squirm out of bed but arms around my waist tightened and I heard a soft moan. Where the hell was I? I was terrified.

"Good morning Kayla."

I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. I slept at Arin's house last night, how could I forget? I relaxed a little and turned over so Arin and I were facing  each other. He had dark circles underneath his eyes, I outlined them with my fingers gently, looking at him with furrowed brows.

He closed his eyes at my touch and a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"I couldn't sleep very much last night."

Arin gave a weak half smile and pulled me closer to him, I saw so many emotions on his face. Frustration, sadness, lust? No no, impossible. Oh well, I couldn't focus on that right now. All I could think about was that I was hugging him. I can't remember that last time I actually hugged someone, I mean really hugged someone. We spent all day in bed, eating ice cream and talking.

Arin was making me really worried, he would just stop and stare at every inch of my face. Something was different and he looked like he was about to say something, but every time it looked like he was about to he just stopped and let out a loud sigh. I couldn't help but look him over, he had his shirt off and he was wearing only his boxers. His stomach was perfect, his skin was warm and soft. I longed to be in his arms again.

"Done checking me out?" Arin laughed.

'PSH! I wasn't checking you out, I just missed you okay."

"You're a terrible liar when it comes to me you know."

"Shut up, I do miss you."

"aaaaaaaaaaaand you were also checking me out."

I slapped Arin's chest and snuggled up into him again. We sat there for a while not saying anything, just holding each other. It was about six o'clock when I finally checked my phone.

"Take me home please? Moms probably worried about me."

"Sure." Arin's expression dropped a little when I asked him.

When we arrived at my house Arin ran over to open my car door, I laughed at how sweet he was. Arin stopped when we were mid way up my drive way, he looked around for a minute and had a really confused face.

"Where's your dad?"

I froze. Tears instantly swelled my eyes.

"He h-had to stay back."

"Why?"

"W-work. I have to go, bye."

I started to walk away when Arin ran back up to me and grabbed my wrist trying to turn me back around.

"Whoa, wait? What's wrong?"

I refused to turn around, I didn't want him to see me cry and I sure as hell couldn't explain what really happened with my dad.
