Strength

I knocked on Grant's door softly.
"Caly." He asked and opened the door. He immediately pulled me into a tight hug. I whimpered in pain. He loosened his hold on me and looked me up and down. Anger played across his face when he noticed my burns and bruises.
"What did they do to you?" He whispered and swept me into his arms and carried me to his bed.
"They had to restrain Luna with silver after my fight." I replied looking away from him.
"Is she back?" He asked placing me softly on the bed.

"Not for a week." I said and shivered as he pushed a displaced hair behind my ear.
"I'm going to have a little word with the Captain, we are leaving." Grant said and started to get up but I grabbed his hand.
"No, we're staying. We've a record to beat and please, just stay with me... for a while." I pleaded.

"Because I know how hard it is for you to ask for help, I will stay. But tomorrow I will be sorting this out." Grant replied with a determined look on his face and sat down beside me. He picked up my hand and lightly traced my burns with finger and I jumped. He then kissed my forehead and whispered in my ear.
"I'm going to fix this." He then walked to his bathroom and came back with a first aid kit.
"I'm fine I promise." I said.
"You don't look fine." He replied pulling out some cream and bandages.
"Umm... thanks." I said sarcastically.
"I didn't mean."
"I know." I interrupted. He put the cream on my wrists and ankles and wrapped them in bandages. He then closed the first aid kit and sat next to me on the edge of his bed. I grabbed his face and pulled him into a kiss. The kiss was comforting and I was content.  I wrapped my arms around him and he put his hands in my hair and pushed me down. He trailed kisses along my bruised jawline and I gasped when I felt his hand tentatively tug on my shirt silently asking permission to take it off. I shook my head, let go of him and ran to his bathroom before he could see me cry. He might hear me but it wouldn't be as embarrassing. I locked the door and started sobbing.

"Did I do something to hurt you?" Grant asked concerned from the other side of the door, I shook my head before I realised that he couldn't see me. I managed to get out a 'no' that I sincerely hoped he heard. I got up and stumbled to the mirror. I lifted my shirt to see blue bruises covering my right ribs and slow healing cuts across my back and face. I let go of my shirt. I should have looked in the mirror before I came here, I'm a mess. How can anyone love someone who looks like this? Looks... weak. I dropped to the floor with a thud.

"Caly? Are you okay?" I couldn't answer him. He'd know, know that I was weak. I couldn't have that.

"Answer me Caly!" He yelled banging on the door. I tried to calm my breathing and wrapped my arms around my middle, but the pain reminded me of my weakness and I felt a new wave of panic wash over me. The banging on the door had stopped and I thought that Grant was gone. That was until the door was kicked down and He stood in the doorway.

"You can't." I stuttered out struggling to breathe and turning away from him. I felt him wrap his arms around me.

"Can't what baby?"
"S-see mee, li-like this." I managed to get out eventually. Grant started stroking my hair.
"Take deep breaths, we'll talk once you've calmed down."

And that's what happened I sat there for what felt like an hour before the tears stopped flowing and I was able to construct sentences.

"I don't understand, what you meant by, like this." He finally broke the silence. I gestured to bruises and burns.
"Oh hun, we all get injuries." He looked supportingly at me.

"That's not it Grant, It's me, like this. Weak." I said quietly.

"You must not know me well enough, I don't see this is weak, the fact that you're still alive and not quitting is strength. You are the strongest person I know." I looked at him.
"You really mean that?" I asked hopefully.
"Course I do. I think we could use a little getting to know each other. How about a date?" He suggested.
"What?" I asked stupidly. I was surprised
"You know. What two people do when they think each other are attractive and want to get to know them better." He explained smiling.

"Okay." I said finally making a decision. This would be good for our relationship. He stood up and held out his hand.
"Well, come on. Let's go." I looked up at him in shock.
"You mean right now?" I questioned.

"Yes." He said confidently.

"But it's almost midnight. And I look like this."
"Let me give you a reason why I don't care." He said pulling me to my feet.
"No matter what, you will always look beautiful to me." My heart fluttered and we left the bathroom hand in hand.

We walked around the building looking for the perfect place. Eventually we gave up and settled for pizza from the 24hr delivery joint a couple of blocks away. We sat on the steps of the Stark tower and talked about everything he had been doing the passed week and all our favorite movies. I had been on a couple of dates before and this by far topped the list. It may not have been a classy restaurant, or a gold class cinema but it was amazing. We walked back to my room as we arrived at my door I let go of his hand and turned to look at him.
"Thank you. I had a wonderful time." I said smiling, feeling much better then I did before.
"Anytime. Good night." He said and kissed my forehead.

"Are you leaving?" I asked.
"Yes, you don't need me, you're good now." He said hugging me carefully.
"Good night, Caly." He repeated and walked away.

"Good night." I whispered starstruck and went to bed.
