I woke up the next morning smiling last nights events playing on my mind. I decided I was in a good mood until I moved and pain coursed through me. I then realized I was not feeling 100%. I was actually feeling kinda sad and depressed. My down hill train of thoughts was interrupted, thankfully, by a buzzing noise emitting from my phone. I checked it and there were a lot of texts from Triplett. We had missed our nightly phone conversations. The last one telling me to read that note he gave me. I had completely forgotten about. I searched through all my belongings before I finally found it. I opened it slowly and cautiously, almost as if I was afraid that something might jump out of the paper. But when I opened it nothing jumped out at me there were just two word scribbled in Triplett's notoriously messy handwriting. 'Chin up' I smiled and subconsciously lifted my head. He was right I needed to focus on Grant and I's goal. Staying longer than two months, so far it had only been two weeks. I sent Trip a quick text telling him I'd call later and thanked him for the note. After getting dressed in my little black dress of confidence and some killer knee high boots, I set off to find Captain America.
When I found him he was in a fist fight with Grant.
"Gentlemen." I shouted attempting to get their attention, unfortunately that didn't work. I decided I needed a more unconventional way to stop them. I walked in between them dodging their strikes until they finally realize that I'm here.
"What are you doing Grant?" I asked gently tracing a finger around a cut on his face.
"Fixing it like I promised." He replied looking at Steve venomously.
"Not like this. Please let me talk to him first." I gestured for him to sit in a seat across the room. He hesitantly walked away.
"What happened to your face and wrists Agent Jackson?" He asked studying my injuries.
"Banner did my face, but my wrists and ankles, even my stomach that was you and Stark." I said incredulously. Was he trying to make me more angry on purpose? Cause it was working.
"What are you talking about?" He looked at me with a look that for a second made me doubt he knew anything but I shook it off.
"Let me re-cap for you. After sedating Luna and I during our fight with The Hulk, you wrongly decided to use silver infused restraints to strap me to a bed causing Luna to be weakened so much I can't reach her." By the end of my rant I was yelling. I took a deep breath and looked over to Grant for reassurance but is was just staring at me with dark eyes.
"No.' Steve shook his head.
"Stark said that you were healing in the recovery room from self inflicted injuries." He looked concerned. I couldn't believe he thought I was that gullible. He is captain America though so maybe he is right. Oh god, This isn't going to end well.
"Are you kidding me? You bought it? You unstable do you think I am." I was less angry than I was before, but still enraged I may have anger issues but I am way above self harm. He shook his head again.
"No that wasn't supposed to happen. Banner was under strict instructions."
"I guess you can't leave two monsters alone in a room together or all hell will break loose." I said looking down.
"You're not a monster." Grant called from the bench. I hadn't realised he had heard what was going on. I kept my head down, I knew what I really was.
"The avengers seem to think differently." I mumbled at what I thought was too quite for anyone to hear, but I was wrong. Lifting up my chin gently and looking me directly in the eye Steve said,
"We don't think that, it was Stark and Banner." I tried to look down again but he held my chin up.
"I'll sort this out." And with that he left me standing there in the middle of an almost empty gym."On a completely different subject Caly, can I just say that you look absolutely stunning today." Grant sauntered over to me. I looked up at him surprised. I blushed.
"Thank you." I said not sure of what to say.
"I never thought that the Avengers would be like this. I thought they were all good. Flawless almost." I started to ramble on. He put a finger up to my mouth.
"I think that maybe we could use a break from the facility. Let,s go somewhere for the day." He held out his hand and turned to the door. I was unsure at first, It had been pretty intense recently. Then I remembered Trip's note and what I was wearing. Are kidding me I could do this. I took his hand. Leaving the Stark tower far behind us when spent and amazing day out in the city, talking and eating ice cream. Spending the day with him reminded me of the fact that despite everything we'd been through already, I really liked Grant and he liked me too. For a second the word love crossed my mind but I shrugged it off. When we got back a went our separate ways I managed to avoid everyone in the building and make it to my room. I decided that now would be a good time to call Trip. Dialing his number I started to clean my room up a bit, it was a mess.
"Caly, about time girl." Trip answered the phone energetically.
"Sorry about that Trip, there was a couple of issues between me and the Avengers." I sighed."What? Surely it'll be sorted out soon?" He questioned.
"Absolutely. Grant and I are on a mission to best the recruit record." I replied.
"I see, speaking of Grant... I heard some rumors back hear about you two hooking up. Care to comment Jackson." I gasped into the phone. How did they find out?
"If I was to confirm it then I would need assurance that it would not leave this phone call." I said suspiciously.
"Of course Caly." He promised. I took a deep breath.
"Confirmed." I said and smiled."Knew it. You guys totally deserve it, I gotta go they're calling an emergency meeting. I shall catch up with you tomorrow." Trip rushed out.
"Bye Trip." I said and he hung up. I fell asleep that night running through all the reasons they could have called an emergency meeting.
