Hello! Note from the Author. Sorry for abandoning this story for so long, has it been a year or two? Lol, much apologies but here is the next installment in the Miracle story! Enjoy.
"Higher!" Eugene commanded and I gritted my teeth. Everyone collectively strained against the higher gravitational pull that was dragging down on our bodies. The Ibex suits were no more than glorified body suits with a force field projection to protect our faces. There was not a single feature that would enable us to escape the gravitational tests.
"When are we going to do low-grav tests?" Rain groaned and Eugene sighed.
"Either when all of you can manage not to collapse in high-grav settings or we hit the three hour mark." Eugene sounded positively exhausted for someone who was sitting in the regular gravity viewing room.
"I'm dying," Lucille cried in her hot pink suit and how the fuck did she manage to get hers in hot pink?
The twins were leaning together and sweating profusely as if they were in a sauna. Their heavy long hair did not help them in this situation. The only people who were fine were Seth and Little Jo. Seth, the twit, had the nerve to mock us all by reading during the exercise and Little Jo was unaffected probably due to his intense daily work outs.
Whispering a long line of colorful profanities I finally gave in to leaning against Rain. He looked up, surprised, but leaned back so that we were supporting each other like the twins. I rarely depended on others but this was a special case. Lucille caught the hint and struggled her way over to Little Jo who had no problem, he looked a little eager I noticed, in helping Lucille.
Finally Eugene turned off the high-grav setting and announced over the speaker "Well done, the key was team work and you brats finally figured it out." After a short pause he continued speaking "Seth would you join me inside for a moment?"
Seth, the goddamn genius (I found myself swearing more often these days and was not sure if I liked or hated the fact), made his way to the door at the end of the tall white simulation room and disappeared from our view.
"Why did Eugene want to talk to him?" Lucille tapped a manicured finger against her chin.
Rain and I looked at each other for a moment before I chose to speak. "He didn't pair up."
The twins were rebraiding each others hair. "Seths always been a loner," Nikita said and Adlai nodded "He doesn't like relying on others for anything."
Kinda like me, I thought, but then immediately dismissed the thought because I had just relied on Rain a moment ago. Speaking of Rain, he looked absolutely exhausted.
"What's wrong trooper?" I jokingly prodded him, "didn't work out enough?"
A cloud passed over his features before he shook his head with a smirk. "More than you, pansy."
I stuck my tongue out "I do too work out."
"Do not."
"Do too."
Our sibling spat was interrupted by the sound of a door opening. Seth walked in silently with an annoyed look on his face but it quickly slid off into his regular poker face. Little Jo went over and laid a thick hand on his shoulder and Seth just sighed and pushed it off.
I looked at this gesture as nonconsequential at the time but I would soon be proved wrong.
