"Riley Sawyer Greene. Come back here and pack the rest of your things, we have to be out of the house by tomorrow. Otherwise, we are never gonna make it out of this city."But little did Riley's mother know Riley, or Sawyer should I say; she hates her first name, was not in their family home. She was out in the neighbors yard saying goodbye to her best friend James, or should I say Lucas. He hates his first name too.
Although they met only the day before, they have formed an inexplainable bond and were reluctant to be leaving each other so soon.
"Promise we will meet again?" Sawyer looked up at the 1 inch taller boy with a hopeful look in her eyes.
"I promise." He replied, with sincere dedication lacing his tone. And with a final goodbye and one last glance, the children part their ways not knowing what the future held for them. Sawyer returned to her home, packed her bags, and the next day she was gone; leaving the city and her best friend with it.
— 14 years later —
Beep beep beep
"Ugh, alarm clocks are such a nuisance."
"Riley! Wake up! You can't be late for your first day of school!" Sawyer grumbled at her mother's command. She hated her first name and her mother knew it too, but she was always called Riley. Today held a known, yet new sort of excitement, it was the first day of school. Her seventh first day of school in seven different towns and cities all in fourteen years and now she's back in the city where it all began, but today was also the first day of her senior year in high school. That one fact made it all okay waking up at 6:30 AM on a Monday morning.
"I'm up! I'm up!" And with that, Sawyer reluctantly, but with mild excitement, got up and started on her morning routines. She even had a little mental checklist:
» Brush teeth
» Wash face
» Brush Hair
» Jeans and a t-shirt, maybe a hoodie if its cold
» Miraculously find socks
» Breakfast, shoes, go!
And so that's what she did, and before she realized, she was standing in front of the entrance to her new school 15 minutes before anyone else will arrive. So she did the obvious thing to do, she went in. But before she could extend her arm out to grab the door handle, she was knocked off her feet. Sawyer flew back 3 feet before landing straight on her back, knocking the air out of her lungs.
"What the hell?" She looked up and caught a glimpse of a brown haired boy running around the corner to the other side of the school. Deciding it wasn't worth her time finding the boy who so rudely pushed her down, Sawyer got up and went inside the building.
"Aw crap, I woke up late again.. I have to meet Calum in 10 minutes" James Lucas Coffland should have woken up 20 minutes ago to give him enough time to get ready and meet his friend. However, he only had 10 minutes before he has to leave the house. James, or should I say Lucas; he hates his first name, gets up and continues his morning routine. He didn't have a mental checklist, just a goal: leave on time.
15 minutes later Lucas is running out the door of the house he lived in for 19 years, and in a mere 4 minutes he reached the school.
"7:35, I was supposed to meet Calum 5 minutes ago." Lucas checks his watch as he's running past the front entrance of the school, and doesn't see the platinum haired girl standing in front of him.
"Oh shi.t" He catches a glimpse of blond hair and slightly stumbles at the impact of running into the girl, but he continues running knowing his friend is waiting for him. He turns the corner and sees Calum leaning against the brick wall with his eyes closed and a cigarette in his mouth. Moments later, Calum realized that Lucas had arrived,
"Dude, what took you so long?"
"Sorry, I woke up late.. and I think I ran into some chick in front of the school? Anyways, why the hell did you want me to meet you here so early?"
"I wanted to know who your new neighbors were. Did you find out?"
"Nah, they came really late last night I guess. C'mon, if that was it then lets go in. And blow out that cigarette, before we get caught." Calum puts out his cigarette and the boys walk in together, one smelling like boy and the other, smoke. They open the doors and in front of them is the most radiant girl Lucas has ever seen.
"Sawyer?"

Hey! Sorry the chapter is only 779 words but I wanted to end at a suspenseful kinda place. Tell me what you guys think!! Don't worry about the story becoming super cliché because it's gonna take a dramatic turn pretty soon. I think I'm going to keep this story short and sweet especially if it is going to be the first book I finish. I wanted to explain some things, I am going to call them Lucas and Sawyer in the story, but that is only what they call each other. Everyone else calls them James and Riley because those are what their names are, however knowing that both of them don't like their first names, they call each other Lucas (Luke) and Sawyer (Greene - Sawyer doesn't have a good nickname so Lucas will often call her by her last name).
