So this is who you guys picked as Violet! Her original description in a previous chapter still stands over this picture, but the picture is to help you guys visualize her better. Thanks so much to everyone who voted!
I watch closely as he reads the letter. I can see him smile at some parts. I don't even remember what I wrote in this letter, it wasn't one of the more important ones. I feel like I should read the letters before he does so I can prepare myself for what he may ask me, but at the same time I want him to be the one to open them.
When he finishes he looks up, and I ask if I can read it too. He hands it over and I take a moment to read over it. I keep glancing at him while I read. He's looking out at the water, eyebrows lowered and jaw tight, letting me know he's deep in thought. When I finish I hand it back to him and we sit in silence for a bit.
His deep voice cuts through the silence. "Tell me about it."
I look over at him, confused. "About what?"
He nods at the letter. "About Germany. About everything that happened between this letter and the last."
I blow out a breath as I think it over. "Well both letters cover it pretty well. I think there are more gaps later. Germany is so beautiful Jon. It has these picture perfect towns all over. It's nothing like over here, there's so much history there. Well almost everywhere else, really. That's one of my favorite parts about traveling, the feeling of being transported through time. There's really nothing like that here."
I'd been looking at the ground as I rambled on, and when I look up I find his eyes locked on me and a small smile on his face.
"Me too. I probably haven't traveled as much as you have but that feeling of going to a new place for the first time is pretty cool."
"What do you mean you haven't traveled as much as me?" I ask incredulously, "That's practically half your job! Travel to one place, skate around and score goals, then travel to another place."
He shakes his head at this. "It's not the same though. We don't get to really explore, you know how it is. It's also not like we go to other countries."
"So where would you go then, if you could go anywhere."
He responds immediately. " South America." He grins and runs a hand through his hair. I become mesmerized with the way his muscles shift at the smallest of actions. I have to quickly snap out of it when I realize he's still speaking and am extremely grateful that he's looking at the ground. "Also going to more countries in Europe would be nice. Maybe Australia or something too, I don't know."
"Hey if you're ever looking for a tour guide I'm your girl!" I grin at him and he grins back, until what I've just said sinks in with the both of us. I see the smile drop from his face about the same time as I feel it drop from mine. We fall into an uncomfortable silence because we both know that I was his girl, and now I'm not.
He clears his throat in an attempts to change the subject. "So how was your drive?"
I reach down and stroke Scout's fur as I respond. "It was good, really long though. How were the awards?"
He perks up at this, hockey is something he can always talk about. "It was good. The usual. It was a good feeling to be the guy carrying around the Stanley Cup."
I already know that he won the award that he was nominated for, but I want to hear him admit it so I ask. "So did you win?"
He gets that uncomfortable look on his face when someone asks him a question that is hard to answer humbly. That stupidly adorable look that has me biting my lip as I wait for his answer.
